Editor’s Note: A lawsuit has been filed against Activision Blizzard by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which alleges the company has engaged in abuse, discrimination, and retaliation against its female employees. Activision Blizzard has denied the allegations. The full details of the Activision Blizzard lawsuit (content warning: rape, suicide, abuse, harassment) are being updated as new information becomes available.

One Call of Duty: Vanguard player learned the hard way that a bizarre glitch can result in their usually loyal Guard Dog turning on them mid-battle. Developer Sledgehammer Games brought dogs back into the fray for its latest entry, much to the chagrin of many a longtime Call of Duty fan. Attack Dogs, thus far, feel incredibly overpowered, due in large part to their bullet spongy nature that makes them difficult to dispatch even for skilled players. Their continued inclusion in Killstreaks has been met with disdain amongst members of the community, as well.

Treyarch introduced Attack Dogs to the world of Call of Duty in 2008’s World at War. They were overpowered in that particular adventure, too, many may recall. As far as multiplayer was concerned, Attack Dogs more or less upended the balance of things. Hopes were high that Sledgehammer had fine-tuned the dogs ahead of their return in Vanguard, perhaps figuring out an exact science that would allow canines to fit in easily with the rest of the fast-paced action. This much hasn’t been accomplished and a new glitch suggests something is terribly wrong with the Vanguard’s Guard Dog AI.

Earlier this week, Reddit user stonks_xd uploaded a video featuring odd behavior from their Guard Dog in Call of Duty: Vanguard. Things seem to be going smoothly in the first few seconds of the clip, then a prompt for the Guard Dog Killstreak pops up, encouraging the player to make use of the armored canine. All of a sudden, though, man’s best friend turns hostile. In a matter of seconds, the Guard Dog goes from protecting its owner to attacking and killing the very same person. This will no doubt result in trust issues going forward. See how the chaos plays out in the following video from stonks_xd.

At first glance, it may seem as though this is another player’s Guard Dog launching the attack. But the KillCam shows no one else has control of the canine in question. This marks but another instance of a Call of Duty: Vanguard glitch wreaking havoc on an otherwise good time.

The latest World War II-set Call of Duty entry hit store shelves a little less than a month ago. While it already counts among the best-selling games of the year, sales for the series have taken a considerable hit. In the UK, in fact, Call of Duty is selling worse than it was over a decade ago before the brand became an industry juggernaut.
