Warning: SPOILERS for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 4.

Although Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 4 has subtle links to Jurassic World: Dominion, Netflix’s animated spinoff has a major cliffhanger ending that might mean the teenage campers will finally be rescued. In Camp Cretaceous season 4, Darius (Paul-Mikel Williams), Brooklynn (Jenna Ortega), Kenji (Ryan Potter), Ben (Sean Giambrone), Yasmina (Kausar Mohammed), and Sammy (Raini Rodriguez) ended up marooned on a completely new Jurassic World-like island owned by Mantah Corp. The kids discover a diabolical plot by Mantah Corp after they decide to protect the island’s dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures from Mantah Corp’s programmer, Kash D. Langford (Haley Joel Osment).

Mantah Corp owns their own unnamed island off the coast of Costa Rica that isn’t part of the Five Deaths island chain that includes Isla Sorna or Isla Nublar. When the Mosasaurus destroyed their boat, Camp Cretaceous’ teenagers washed ashore on Mantah Corp’s island, which had been terraformed into four different environments, called biomes, connected by a cloaked facility. Befriending Dr. Mae Turner (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), a friendly scientist studying the island’s dinosaurs, the kids learned that Mantah Corp cloned their own hybrid prehistoric creatures, including the first Spinosaurus seen since Jurassic Park III, and even a saber-toothed tiger. As opposed to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s infamous dinosaur auction, Mantah Corp’s plan is to create a dinosaur fight club and invite wealthy clientele to pay for the unique privilege of watching the dinos fight to the death. Mantah Corp even used drugs to make the dinosaurs more aggressive and Kash utilized drones and robots called BRADs to force the dinosaurs to battle each other and secure the island from interlopers.

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 4 smartly broke the paradigm of the first three seasons and freshened up the show by putting the teenagers in a new environment and scenario. With Mantah Corp’s island’s different biomes, including a desert, jungle, the arctic, and a swamp, populated by robots, Camp Cretaceous season 4 took on a Westworld-like vibe while still being full of the familiar dinosaur action that’s a hallmark of the Jurassic movie franchise. Camp Cretaceous season 4 also turned the tables so that the teen heroes choose to be the dinosaurs’ protectors instead of seeing the prehistoric clones as enemies to flee from. Here’s how Camp Cretaceous season 4’s ending set up the possibility of the kids finally being rescued for good and how it all ties to Jurassic World: Dominion.

Camp Cretaceous Reveals Mantah Corp’s Boss – What It Means

Camp Cretaceous Season 4 Ending & Jurassic World Dominion Links Explained

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 4’s ending dropped the bombshell that Kash’s boss and Mantah Corp’s CEO is Kenji’s dad, Mr. Kon (Andrew Kishino). Mr. Kon has been an absentee figure throughout Camp Cretaceous but he’s been mentioned often by Kenji, who doesn’t have a close relationship with his father. Still, in order to self-aggrandize and impress his friends, Kenji used to brag endlessly about his family’s wealth. Kenji even brought his fellow Campers to the Kon family’s opulent apartment on Isla Nublar in Camp Cretaceous season 3. Mantah Corp is Camp Cretaceous’ version of InGen and BioSyn from the films and it’s been a sinister presence throughout the Netflix series. It’s also interesting that InGen and Masrani Global Corporation, which owned Jurassic World, let a competitor buy real estate on the island, especially the head of Mantah Corp, which wanted InGen’s dinosaur genetic technology.

The revelation that Kenji’s father runs Mantah Corp has several major implications. It means that Kenji’s father was responsible for blackmailing Sammy and her family before she joined Camp Cretaceous. Sammy was forced to commit industrial espionage and steal dinosaur samples for Mantah Corp in Camp Cretaceous season 1, and the results of her theft now live in Mantah Corp island in the form of baby hybrid dinosaurs like Jurassic World’s that Kash has been breeding. This could drive a wedge between Sammy and Kenji, although the boy isn’t responsible for his father’s actions. Indeed, Kenji was somehow not aware that his father runs Mantah Corp, which speaks to how sheltered he was. How Mr. Kon will react to Kenji’s new girlfriend, Brooklynn, also remains to be seen.

Will Camp Cretaceous Season 5 See The Kids Finally Being Rescued?

Camp Cretaceous Season 4 Ending & Jurassic World Dominion Links Explained

Camp Cretaceous season 4’s cliffhanger promises and all but guarantees there will be a season 5, which could finally see the teenagers get rescued. In Camp Cretaceous season 4, Darius and the others consciously made the choice to miss their rendezvous with the supply plane they summoned in order to protect the dinosaurs cloned from Jurassic World’s samples by Kash. But while when he infiltrated Kash’s operation and tried to get the villain’s trust, Darius was able to use Kash’s phone to place a phone call to the mainland. Darius briefly spoke to his older brother Brandon (Benjamin Florez, Jr.), who thought Darius was dead. Brandon is now determined to find his little brother and bring him home.

Now that Mr. Kon has literally come face-to-face with Kenji and his friends, one would think he would want to bring his son home. Mr. Kon either believed Kenji was dead or he may not have cared since, otherwise, a man of his resources would have attempted to mount a rescue. However, Mr. Kon apparently wasn’t aware or concerned that his own son was lost in Jurassic World after Isla Nublar fell to the dinosaurs. Still, unless Mr. Kon is truly evil, it’s hard to imagine how he wouldn’t want to get Kenji and his friends back to the mainland, although they have all seen and have actively tried to stop Mantah Corp’s plans. It would be exceptionally cruel if Mr. Kon didn’t save his son and the other campers, but after everything Kenji and the others have endured, it’s certainly possible they could remain stranded.

How Camp Cretaceous Season 4 Connects To Jurassic World: Dominion

Camp Cretaceous season 4 was said to connect to Jurassic World: Dominion but there weren’t obvious links to what’s known about Colin Trevorrow’s upcoming film. Darius did name-drop Jurassic Park’s Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) to Kenji, but otherwise, Camp Cretaceous’ links to Jurassic World: Dominion appear to be tangential. It’s possible Mantah Corp could be mentioned in Dominion, which takes place a few years after the Jurassic World animated series’ events. Otherwise, Camp Cretaceous shows that other companies like Mantah Corp have access to InGen’s DNA samples and dinosaur cloning technology since Mantah Corp was able to make their own hybrid T-Rexes, sinoteratops, brachiosaurus, and even a Spinosaurus. Mantah cloning a saber-toothed tiger also shows how far their technology has come, in the same way that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom revealed that perfect human clones like Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon) exist.

Another possible connection between Camp Cretaceous season 4 and Jurassic World: Dominion is Bumpy, Ben’s pet ankylosaurus, who was left behind on Isla Nublar when the Campers finally left the island. Audiences know from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom that Isla Nublar was destroyed by a volcanic eruption. While many were evacuated, dinosaurs like the brachiosaurus also died on the island. The penultimate episode of Camp Cretaceous season 4 ended with the sad sight of Bumpy at the Campers’ treehouse waiting for his human friends to come back. Perhaps Jurassic World: Dominion will reveal that Bumpy the ankylosaurus was one of the dinosaurs who was rescued and set loose, and Bumpy could end up as the most direct link between the film and Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous season 4.
