With the end of Season 4 of Castlevania, the brilliant adaptation by Netflix of the hugely popular games has finally come to a close. The end of the series also brings forth a natural ending to the individual stories of the brilliant characters that the show had created. One among them is that of Hector, one of the two human generals in Dracula’s army.

While the anime has moved fans to form a love-hate relationship with the character of Hector, it cannot be denied that he is one of the most influential and has even delivered some of the best dialogues in the series. However, there are many unknown details about this brilliant character that have only been alluded to in the anime or ignored completely for the sake of storytelling and continuity purposes.

10 His Parent’s Death Is Similar Yet Somewhat Different From The Games

In both the anime and the games, Hector’s parents are shown to be unsupportive and weary of their son’s abilities. Hector learned at a young age that he possessed the ability to bring back creatures from the dead and started keeping them as pets. His mother was fraught with her son’s strange abilities and wished that he had never been born. Meanwhile, his father was an alchemist only interested in fame, fortune, and power, and seldom paid attention to Hector.

However, the anime has made certain changes to how they die. While in the anime it is shown that Hector burns down his house, along with his parents, in the games, it is his reincarnated pets who help Hector by burning down the local church, presumably with his parents and some of his neighbors still trapped inside.

9 He Met With Dracula In Rhodes, Greece

Unlike the games, where Hector met with Dracula, after being escorted to his castle by his reincarnated pets; in the anime, Hector went on to spend life away from other humans after having slaughtered his family. He started spending his life in isolation in Rhodes, Greece, where he was met by Dracula, who was out traversing the world after being urged to do so by Lisa of Lupu.

Having come to learn about Hector’s existence from the local people, Dracula met with him and instructed him to master the art of a Devil Forgemaster. Upon Lisa’s execution by the Church at Targoviste, Dracula called upon Hector’s services, asking him to build an army of night creatures for Dracula’s nefarious schemes against all of humanity.

8 He Has Knowledge Of Necromancy

Hector is not only a powerful Devil Forgemaster, but also has ample knowledge and skills with Necromancy. In fact, it was his powers of Necromancy that surfaced prior to him learning the art of a Devil Forgemaster. Unlike the skills of a Devil Forgemaster, which uses dead bodies as a vessel to house demons from Hell, Necromancy allows Hector to bring the souls of dead people back to their own bodies.

As he explains to Godbrand, he is someone who makes life blossom from death, and the creatures he raises are, therefore, not dead but alive in their own regard. He was also able to partially bring Bishop back to life in the form of a zombie during the sacking of Dracula’s castle.

7 He Is Also A Wizard

Hector is also somewhat proficient in magic, having proclaimed himself to be a wizard at least on one occasion. As seen during the final season, Hector can focus his will with the use of a talisman and create fenced posts or force fields by placing enchanted pebbles that satisfy his design.

He can use the talisman to make the force fields erupt in either of the directions as he wishes, and also has the ability to erect containment barriers like the one he used to entrap Lenore, by simply uttering the incantation “Dantalion Presidio.”

6 He Has Partnered With Trevor Belmont

Castlevania 10 Lesser Known Things About Hector

Hector and Trevor Belmont are both complicated characters. However, they have seldom met in the anime, which is quite different from the games, where the two have fought against each other and also partnered. In Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, Hector first meets Trevor in the temple at Baljhet Mountain, where they fight and Trevor easily defeats him.

They fight again in Dracula’s abandoned castle, where Trevor realizes that Hector is stronger than their previous encounter, and helps him by opening a hidden chamber. Later Hector also accepts the quest of defeating Dracula and putting an end to his curse, after learning that Trevor is grievously injured; thereby helping the Belmont once again, albeit indirectly.

5 He Is The More Preferred General Of Dracula

Despite having entered Dracula’s castle almost two years after Issac had been inducted, Hector grew exceptionally in both skill and power. He was soon able to create with relative ease, some of the strongest monsters that the game had.

As a result, he grew to be the preferred general of Dracula, who relied on him more than he did on Issac, even asking Hector to go and kill Trevor Belmont when Trevor was planning to enter Wallachia. However, Hector grew tired of all the slaughter Dracula had forced him to commit, pitying the humans and thereby choosing to defect.

4 His Powers Rival That Of Death

Castlevania 10 Lesser Known Things About Hector

Both Hector and Issac were hugely powerful, with Dracula, as well as, Trevor Belmont confirming that their powers equal that of Death’s; an entity of chaos who served as Dracula’s second-in-command.

Having defeated Death towards the end of Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, it can, therefore, also be postulated that Hector might after all be more powerful than Death himself. Therefore, Hector being so easily duped by the sinister Council of Sisters, came off as somewhat awry to fans who had also played the games.

3 He Falls In Love With A Human

Hector is sent to find and kill Trevor Belmont when Dracula learns about Belmont approaching Wallachia. Using this as a chance to flee, he kills the monsters Dracula sends along with him but gets wounded in the process. Trying to recuperate, Hector takes refuge inside a church, where he meets Rosalee, the church’s sister-in-charge.

After Dracula is defeated by Trevor, Rosalee insists that Hector stays with them. Enjoying an idyllic life in the village, Hector falls for Rosalee who reciprocates his feelings and the two spend three years together. However, Issac shatters the dream by manipulating the townsfolk and getting Rosalee burned at the stake with the false accusation of being a witch.

2 He Becomes Involved With Issac’s Sister

Castlevania 10 Lesser Known Things About Hector

While frantically searching for Issac, after the latter causes Rosalee’s death, Hector comes to meet a witch named Julia who bears an uncanny resemblance with his dead lover. However, it is not until later that Hector realizes she is the sister of Issac. She is also the person who informs him about Dracula’s curse and warns him against letting the same take control of him as it had with the rest of Wallachia.

It is Julia’s advice that stops Hector from falling into madness. Towards the end of Curse of Darkness, after having defeated every foe, Hector reconciles to his fate and looks forward to dying in peace – only to be rescued by Julia at the last moment. She urges him to not waste his life and even offers him to stay with her; an offer that Hector does not turn down.

1 He Kills Both Issac And Dracula

Unlike the anime, where Hector and Issac reconcile their differences towards the end, Issac is driven insane in the games by Dracula’s curse and vows revenge on Hector for having betrayed their master. He kills Rosalee, forcing Hector to pursue him and seek vengeance. While Issac is shown to be more powerful than Hector in the anime, it is not so in the games.

In fact, Hector defeats Issac quite decidedly on two occasions in the game, even killing him in the final confrontation. Furthermore, he also defeats the partly resurrected Dracula, whom Death had tried to bring back to life using Issac’s corpse as a vessel, clearly establishing the fact that Hector is not someone who should be trifled with.
