Back in 2018, Konami announced a new game in the classic Castlevania series. Grimoire of Souls was supposed to be a mobile exclusive, featuring a number of iconic characters. The game was released on iOS and Android devices, albeit only in Canada, and was soon pulled due to lack of player interest. However, as with many things in the Castlevania universe, Grimoire of Souls refused to stay dead.
As spotted by Eurogamer, a listing for Castlevania: Grimoire Of Souls has appeared on the Apple App Store, exclusively under the Apple Arcade banner. According to the Konami website, there’s no official release date, but it will be “coming soon”. Not much is known about the story, except that it’s set after Dracula has been sealed away.
Grimoire of Souls follows Genya Arikado, a persona of Alucard. While it isn’t entirely clear what that means, we know that he works for a clandestine agency linked to the Japanese government. Not many people are aware of Arikado’s existence, but that works out for him as he’s “constantly perplexed by the intricacies of social interactions.”
Other familiar faces from across the Castlevania series include Simon Belmont, Maria Renard, Charlotte Aulin, Glyph Master Shanoa, and Alucard; but they’ll have to be unlocked. The original trailer for the game revealed that there will be co-op play and a Bounty hunt mode on top of the regular Story mode, but things could have changed since then.
The game is compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. It also offers controller support if the touch controls don’t work for you.
As for other Castlevania games, last month we learnt that Castlevania: Advance Collection was rated for PC. At first it was Australia, and then the Korean rating board rated what should be a collection of the three Game Boy Advance games, Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, and Aria of Sorrow.
The Australian rating did not mention a specific platform for the Advance Collection, but the Korean board rated it only for PC. It’s unclear as of now whether we’ll see more platforms being added into the mix at a later date.
