CD Projekt Red has been having a rough 2021. It’s co-founder recently issued a public apology for the Cyberpunk 2077 debacle, although that statement led to a longwinded discussion about the studio’s QA department – one that many people believe is underpaid and overworked.

However, Lukasz Babiel – QA Lead for Cyberpunk 2077 – doesn’t think that’s the case. In a recent statement, the CD Projekt Red employee refuted those claims and sided with the company. He first addressed the low-pay remarks circling the web:

“Base QA salary at CDPR starts at roughly 75% of national average in Poland for inexperienced QA Analysts and can go higher than 200% of national average for most experienced QA Analysts,” he wrote. Babiel goes on to say that QA also has access to free private medical care, a minimum of 20 paid holidays, between 150-200% overtime pay, access to a 401k, and annual bonus payout.

The QA Lead then turns to address the claim that QA is blamed for bugs they uncovered but were ignored by the development team. Babiel believes this might be true in the eyes of the public, but not those of CD Projekt Red. “Nobody is blaming QA at the studio and Marcin did also not do that in his video. What’s important is that I know that I work with amazing people, I have a really professional and dedicated QA Team and we’ll be fine. We’ll continue to work on game patches so the players will have the best experience possible.”

It’s going to be a long time before we truly know what went on behind-the-scenes of Cyberpunk 2077’s development. But, at least according to Babiel, the QA team has been treated fairly throughout the entire process. Up until the recent trouble with Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red was revered by most gamers – after all, the studio behind The Witcher series must be deserving of praise. It’ll be curious to see how this story unfolds in the coming months, as Cyberpunk 2077 is slowly patched and more stories from employees make their way into the light.
