With Cyberpunk 2077 taking place in an open world with many different weapons, playstyles, and the ability to steal cars, it’s only natural that some players will turn their gameplay experience into Grand Theft Auto and cause as much mayhem as possible. As it turns out, that is perfectly acceptable, although the game might change a player’s mind once they get into it.

While speaking with news outlet PCGamesN, Cyberpunk 2077’s level designer Max Pears stated that players may not necessarily stick with a Grand Theft Auto playstyle all the way through once they see how many options they have at their disposal. “We’ve seen a lot of people default to that ‘GTA mode’, Pears stated to the news outlet. “[…] and then after a little bit they realize how many things are different and adjust how they play.”

Based on what fans have seen, there are multiple ways to play Cyberpunk 2077. They can either brute force through everything or take the hacker approach for instance. Essentially, there really is no wrong way to play the game, and each mission or problem can be approached with multiple solutions. As such, sticking with one solution, although perfectly normal, may not be fully encouraged because another solution may prove to be more fun or interesting.

Despite the recommendation mostly pertaining to missions and other story-related content, there will most certainly be an opportunity to explore Night City and see what it has to offer. In return, players will most likely cause chaos and engage in shootouts with gangs as well as law enforcers (as would be the expectation if they were playing Grand Theft Auto). Furthermore, the playstyle will greatly differ from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Although a different game, players could not go on rampages and slaughter villages full of peasants and farmers because of Geralt’s nature and motivations. Things may be different in Cyberpunk 2077.

On top of all that, some of the NPCs will most likely be treated as essential NPCs, which is why killing them will not be encouraged. Although that doesn’t mean that killing them will not be impossible, killing them, in general, will not make the story beneficial in any way. Still, players will just have to find out for themselves once the game launches this November.
