Celebrate 25 Years of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Free Comic Book Day

Fans can take part in the 25th anniversary of the beloved series Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Free Comic Book Day with a special one-shot issue. Originally beginning as the hit television series, Buffy has had a long stay in comics, which have become her second home. Expanding the premise of the show, Buffy’s adventures as the Chosen One continue to approach new territory.

The annual event meant to celebrate the comic book medium is returning to its regular time on the first Saturday in May. Usually, publishers intend to capitalize on the day by providing comics suit for new readers and longtime fans of characters alike. However, with Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s 25th birthday approaching, BOOM! Studios will release a fitting tribute to Joss Whedon’s hit series.

In an announcement by BOOM! Studios, it was revealed that Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be commemorating 25 years since the series first aired, with a special issue on Free Comic Book Day on May 7, 2022. The issue which will be taking a look back at the series as a high school yearbook will be titled 25 Years of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Free Comic Book Day Special. In this yearbook format, fans will revisit favorite moments throughout the previous decades. From the Scoobies to the various “Chosen Ones” and various vignettes, the one-shot will homage the best of Buffy. The special anniversary issue will be written by Jordi Bellaire and Jeremy Lambert among others, with art by Dan Mora and Marianna Ignazzi, with more artists yet to be announced.

The released cover shows a collage of scenes from Buffy’s many adventures with her friends. However, it doesn’t seem to include any clues regarding what else might be in store for the Chosen One. The announcement by BOOM! Studios also hints that Buffy’s future in comics will be teased, as she moves into new territory. As the titular teenage hero has matured through the years in comics, she is now growing past high school yearbooks and will continue to evolve.

Assembling some of the best creators like Jordi Bellaire and Dan Mora, the special anniversary issue is promising to satisfy longtime fans of the series. With the nature of the event, new readers familiar with the show will be able to get a glimpse as for what’s to come. Both written and illustrated by fans, 25 Years of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is likely to stand out from other comics offered by publishers on Free Comic Book Day.
