When a DLC pack for a popular title adds pets and laser trap, and all of the proceeds go to a worthy cause, that’s a win-win for everybody. Stellar stuff, Children of Morta.

The gaming industry seems to have come to a point where every title can be divided into one of two categories: games where you can pet the dog/cat/other lovable creature and games where you cannot pet the dog/cat/other lovable creature. Which of these two categories of games matter? The first one, naturally.

Titles as varied as WarioWare: Touched! and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag allow the player to do this, but egregiously, some do not. The good news is, patches, updates and DLC expansions allow developers to right their grievous wrongs at a later date. This is exactly what Children of Morta sets out to do with its newly launched DLC, entitled Paws and Claws.

This action RPG (with a hint of roguelike, for spice) has been very well received since its launch last year, with unique elements such as the Bergson family members’ special talents and the relationships between them setting the game apart from similar titles. Whether you’re new to the game or you’re still leading the Bergsons against the Corruption, this update has a lot to offer.

As Dead Mage and 11 Bit Studios explain (via Nintendo Soup), the biggest new addition is the expansion to the house, which opens up the new mechanic of animal care. A variety of animals will visit the Bergsons, and can be fed treats and cared for in exchange for new boosts (faster EXP gain, for instance) for the family.

Along with this update comes a new Treasure Pack, a free offering that adds new Divine Relics, Divine Graces and Consumables. All in all, animals lovers will find a lot of new content to enjoy in the Oaws and Claws DLC, which is available for $3.99. Best of all, every cent will go to Humane Society International, so the player will be doing as much good for real life animals as they will for their in-game ones. What’s not to like?
