Chivalry: Medieval Warfare – from indie developer and original publisher Torn Banner Studios – was initially released in 2012, but the brutal first-person slasher is still considered a solid game to this day (especially thanks to its current Steam User Rating of “Very Positive” from over 45,000 ratings, as of this writing). It was really only a matter of time before a sequel was released.
Originally announced at last year’s PC Gaming Show, Chivalry 2 will bring back all of the violent battles that PC players got to experience with the first game. This time, though, the franchise will be launching more than just on PC launch, including releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store, in addition to an eventual release on the next-gen consoles of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
What’s even more impressive, though, is that – besides all of the brand-new features that Chivary 2 will add or improve upon from Chivalry: Medieval Warfare – the game will be released featuring full cross-platform play between consoles and PC.
“The epic medieval battles in Chivalry 2 deserve an equally massive player-base,” stated Torn Banner Studios President, Steve Piggott. “We can’t wait for gamers across the world on all five platforms to clash steel and experience the greatest melee combat system ever, together.”
With Tripwire Presents and Deep Silver being the co-publishers for Chivalry 2, Tripwire Presents CEO and Co-owner, John Gibson, echoed Piggott’s enthusiasm, stating, “Seeing Torn Banner’s Chivalry 2 shaping up to be an incredible sequel that is a generational leap for the first-person slasher genre we knew it was something players on many platforms would love. Today, we’re extremely happy to announce that the next great Chivalry experience will be available on consoles and feature Cross-Play enabling players everywhere to hack and slash together!”
This is wonderful news, especially considering that one of Chivalry’s most defining features is its focus on fighting multiple foes at once. Cross-platform play will bring all players at once, regardless of system, to the brutal, bloody, and awesome online battles.
