Activision has announced that players of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be receiving a free weapon bundle themed after the latest edition of Nuketown. The popular multiplayer map has appeared in form or another in every iteration of the Black Ops series, each time getting a new coat of paint to match the game’s theme. The map is extremely close quarters, modelled after a small culdesac where combat goes from the backyard to the balcony in quick succession. Smaller maps such as these are great for players looking to level up their guns or profile, and some players just enjoy the intimate chaos they bring to the table.

Now, Black Ops Cold War will be receiving its own edition of the map in a free update that drops into the game on November 24. While the game’s launch has been overshadowed somewhat by the excitement surrounding the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 hitting the market, the Call of Duty faithful has been digging into the new game. There are classic Activision games to discover in the campaign, bonus multiplayer content on PlayStation platforms, and a scavenger hunt to discover secret aspects of its Zombies component. As usual, when it comes to Call of Duty, there’s a lot of game to go around.

As revealed in a new teaser video tweeted out this week alongside a more detailed blog post, the faithful shooter fans will be rewarded with a weapon bundle themed after the fan-favorite map. The Nuketown Weapon Bundle will unlock automatically for all players who’ve played the game since launch. In addition, it’s bundled in with all copies of the game sold from now until December 4th. As far as cosmetics go, the pack features six weapon charms, a sticker, an emblem, and a calling card.

The most valuable thing in the bundle is the Last Stop Weapon Blueprint, which gives players a powerful shotgun perfect for the close-quarters action of Black Ops Cold War. Activision describes the gun as improving on fire rate, damage range, ammo capacity, aiming speed, and sights when compared to the default shotgun options. Beyond multiplayer, this shotgun will transfer over to rounds of Zombies with friends. It will also carry Call of Duty: Warzone along with the rest of the Black Ops Cold War arsenal when the battle royale game starts implementing content from the new game in the new Season One on December 10.

It wouldn’t be Black Ops without Nuketown, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War isn’t the first game to use the map as a special incentive to keep players interested in the game in the weeks following launch. One wonders if the developers at Treyarch will implement the 24/7 Nuketown playlist that fans often crave following the map’s launch, or if they will put some value into their levelling system for a tiny bit longer. Some people enjoy the slower grind, but they’re also not the people who demand multiple levels of prestige and bonus cosmetics for sinking hundreds of hours into a deathmatch mode.
