The cast of the hit sitcom, Community, along with creator Dan Harmon (best known for co-creating Rick and Morty) recently had a virtual table read of the episode, “Cooperative Polygraphy”, “to raise funds for COVID-19 charities, and it ended up reminding fans just how hilarious the show was, and how lovable the characters were.

Joel McHale, who played Jeff Winger on the show, suggested recently that a community movie could happen very soon. Jeff had some truly hilarious lines, with his character’s trademark ego, sarcasm, and dry wit. Here are 10 hilarious Jeff one-liners from Community.

10 “I Think Not Being Racist Is The New Racist.”

In the season 1 episode, “Football, Feminism and You”, Pierce and Dean Pelton collaborate to design the Greendale Mascot – the Greendale Human Being. To represent every race, they try to refrain from using any “distinguishable race features”, in Pierce’s words, such as stereotypical noses and eyes.

They go so far as to compile a chart full of human features and skin tones. When Jeff sees this chart, he asks them what they’re doing, and says the above quote. It’s such a hilarious and clever line.

9 “All Right, Knock It Off. No One At This School Should Pick On Any Class Of People. It’s Like Watching Magicians Bully Jugglers.”

In the season 6 episode, “Laws of Robotics and Party Rights”, Greendale is host to some reformed prisoners, who were using iPads on controllable robots to attend classes.

One of the convicts attends Jeff’s law class, and Garret and some other students were teasing him, putting plants in front of his camera. Jeff walks in and says the above quote and it’s such a hilarious moment of self-awareness.

8 “Oh Hey, Is That A Reason To Leave?”

Jeff has perhaps had one of the best character development of all the characters, going from a selfish, arrogant, narcissist to a selfless person, but now and then, his old personality rears its head up. One of those times was when Shirley asked Jeff to get Chang to sign a forfeiture of parental rights in “Custody Law and Eastern European Diplomacy”.

However, Jeff uses this opportunity and gets Chang out of his apartment by telling him Shirley will let him be a father if he moves out and gets a job. Shirley finds out and goes after Jeff, and Jeff says the above line.

7 “Harrison Ford Is Irradiating Our Testicles With Microwave Satellite Transmissions!”

Community is known for doing parodies of famous TV tropes, and one of the trope it parodies is ‘the flashback’ episode. These are episodes in which the show tells a story that happened in the past, such as “The One With The Flashback” from Friends, or “How I Met Everyone Else” from How I Met Your Mother.

The Community flashback episode is full of new clips, and in one of the flashbacks, the members of the study group have ingested mercury and are locked up and speaking rubbish. In one of these clips, Jeff says the above line.

6 “The Next Person That Offers Me Charity Or Pity Will Be Mentioned, By Name, In My Suicide Note.”

Before Jeff came to Greendale Community College, he was a rich, classy lawyer with a fancy house and a fancy car. He had a Lexus and silver-plated shower knobs. After getting fired, though, he couldn’t pay for any of these and started living in his car.

When Annie and Shirley find out, they tell the study group and offer Jeff their help, but Jeff is too proud to accept it. He smiles and says the above hilarious line, and even funnier is everyone’s shocked reactions.

5 “To Me, Religion Is Like Paul Rudd, I See The Appeal, And I Would Never Take It Away From Anyone But I also Would Never Stand In Line For It.”

Not only is the study group racially diverse, but they also all have different religions. Shirley is extremely Christian, Troy is a Jehovah’s Witness, Annie is Jewish, Abed is Muslim, Britta is an atheist, and Pierce is in a weird religious cult called Reformed Neo Buddhism.

Jeff is an agnostic and says he doesn’t believe in the concept of God. In the season 1 episode, “Comparative Religion”, when everybody is discussing their religion, he says the above line.

4 “Wireless Racism. The Future of the Past Is Now.”

After Pierce gets a bunch of money after his father died, he’s looking to invest it in someone’s business. He tries out a few inventions, such as a trouser bench (“for the man on the move who makes frequent stops.”)

It also includes a camera that detects if someone is a threat if you point it at someone. However, the camera detects Abed, Shirley, and Andre (hint: non-caucasian people) as threats, and Jeff says the above quote.

3 “[Pierce] Refused to Drink Pinot Noir Because He Thought It Was French For ‘Black Penis’.”

Pierce Hawthorne is a hilarious parody of racist, homophobic, and transphobic baby boomers, and he is often the most offensive person to have around. In the season 2 episode, “Competetive Wine Tasting”, the study group decides among various elective classes, and both Jeff and Pierce take Italian Wine Tasting.

After the study group has their first elective classes each, they’re talking about it, and Jeff says, “Whatever your class is, it’s gotta be better than Italian Wine Tasting with Pierce.”, before saying the above line. Not only is it a very clever joke, but it’s also hilarious.

2 “Greendale May Be A Toilet, But It’s Our Toilet. Nobody Craps In It But Us.”

When the study group gets punished for submitting an inappropriate flag for a competition, they must clean an old space simulator. The simulator gets towed away before its launch, which turns out to be the work of City College.

Jeff motivates the group and tells them they must make it back to Greendale, since they have to save their college, and says the above and line. Hilariously, Shirley says “Now that was inspiring.” and Annie looks surprised.

1 “Shut Up, Leonard! Those Teenage Girls You Play Ping Pong With Are Doing It Ironically.”

If there’s one running joke that everyone loves in Community, it’s “Shut Up, Leonard!”. The various one-liners of the study group with Leonard have been so hilarious, from “Shut up, Leonard, I know all about your crooked wang!” by Britta, to “Shut up, Leonard, I saw your YouTube page, what’s the point in reviewing frozen pizza?!”.

One of the most hilarious of these lines comes from Jeff in the season 3 episode, “Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts”. After Leonard corrects a tipsy Jeff, he responds by saying the above hilarious line.
