One of the most disappointing things about Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm was the cancellation of Star Wars 1313. The game was to follow the adventures of Boba Fett, and expose the seedy underbelly of the galaxy. While we’ve come to terms with the fact that we won’t be getting 1313, occasionally uncovered footage would reopen old wounds. The game has been permanently shelved but it seems to have inspired some of the Star Wars content of today.

Just two days ago, some unseen footage for Star Wars 1313 was brought to light. It showed Boba Fett walking around a marketplace in Coruscant and later chasing someone across some rooftops. While this video brought back feelings of what could have been, Grant Parker, who worked on the game at the time, revealed that some of those concepts are currently being used in Star Wars shows like The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett (thanks, GamesRadar).

“I did some early pre-pro work on a bar in this section and some of the planning for a meat factory (you see the hanging tauntaun carcasses),” said Parker on Twitter. “It was the first professional level design work I ever did. It was very important to me. Happy to see it again.”

“Fun Fact: a lot of excellent early concept stuff from 1313 has been repurposed and used in Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett,” he continued. “I was so happy the latest episode even had a meat locker with tauntauns in it.”

Perhaps tauntaun carcasses hanging from meathooks were the reason that Disney permanently shelved Star Wars 1313. Then again, Luke Skywalker did burrow into one of their bellies to keep from freezing over, so we’ll never know.

The uncovered footage showed Boba Fett parkouring over obstacles and jumping to grab ledges while chasing someone. You can see similarities between the gameplay of 1313 and the Uncharted series. After all, Uncharted creative director Amy Hennig worked on the canceled project as well, so it’s not surprising to see similar gameplay between the two. 1313 was supposed to tell the story of Boba Fett between the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy.
