Netflix releases new photos from the live-action Cowboy Bebop series, offering the first looks at iconic villain Vicious and other supporting stars. The main cast for the series includes John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine, Alex Hassell as Vicious and Elena Satine as Julia. Cowboy Bebop revolves around a group of bounty hunters venturing through the galaxy in the titular starship looking for jobs and avoiding their troublesome pasts.

Originally created by Sunrise Inc. group Hajime Yatate, the new Cowboy Bebop has been developed by André Nemec, who is also serving as showrunner, and written by The Mandalorian scribe Christopher Yost. Development first got underway in 2017 and the cast was built in early 2019, though filming saw some troubles due to Cho suffering an on-set injury and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This downtime allowed for the cast and crew to better prepare for bringing the iconic anime to life, including confirming original director Shinichirō Watanabe and composer Yoko Kanno returned as a creative consultant and composer, respectively.

Following the premiere of its title sequence at the TUDUM virtual event, Netflix Geeked has unveiled new photos for Cowboy Bebop. The images offer new and first looks at the supporting cast of the series, including iconic villain Vicious, femme fatale Julia, jazz musician Gren and fan-favorite Corgi Ein. In the recent months leading up to the TUDUM event, Nemec has discussed the lengths he and the creative team have taken to bringing Cowboy Bebop to life, namely in its translation of the stories seen in the series. The showrunner has previously stated that the live-action series will not act as a direct adaptation of the anime but rather work to expand the scope of its plot and characters. That being said, he has confirmed said arcs would still be adapted into the series and the first images are clear proof of this.

The prime example of this found in the new Cowboy Bebop images is that of Vicious and Spike’s church battle in “Ballad of Fallen Angels,” one of the more emotional arcs in the anime. Previous images have teased this story coming to life on screen and the newly released live-action recreation of the Cowboy Bebop opening titles also featured glimpses of Vicious and Spike’s fight, as well as the appearances of Asimov and Katerina from “Asteroid Blues,” Maria Murdock from “Gateway Shuffle” and “Big Shot” hosts Punch and Judy. The wait for the series’ arrival is almost over as it arrives on Netflix on November 19.
