There is quite a bit going on this week in the world of CS:GO. Starting with a bit of bad news, industry insider Tyler McVicker, most well known for his excellent work in the Valve News Network series of insights and leaks, has revealed new information about the long-standing plan to port CS:GO to the Source 2 engine. According to McVicker, this plan has been shelved indefinitely.

This is certainly unfortunate to hear, especially since a new engine would have made CS:GO look far more contemporary and in line with other tactical shooters. While this is all still unconfirmed, the apparent reason for the decision was based in an inability to reliably port over the wealth of community creations that exist in the game right now. As player engagement and community projects are so important to the player base, it would be hard to move forward without incorporating them as well.

In esports, well known player Ioann “Edward” Sukhariev has returned to competitive CS:GO. The former member of Natus Vincere and Winstrike has created a new team named Selectah. With him is Aurimas “Kvik” Kvaksis from QBF and Sergey “smike” Sklyarengo from pro100 players. We are excited to see the return of Edward and cannot wait to watch him in action once again.

German team BIG Clan had a tremendous show of skill this week, climbing 23 spots last month in ranking. Through skill and domination of their opponents, BIG Clan has topped the world rankings for the first time since the organization was founded. The team will need to work hard to keep their lead however, as they are only a hair ahead of their biggest competition.

Lastly, in a piece of news that can only be categorized as bizarre, a CS:GO player in the ESEA league faked his death via Twitter in an effort to have his account unbanned. The player, who goes by Meho and a friend collaborated on Meho’s Twitter account to say that he had died in a car crash. Zyrus, an individual who works at the ESEA League, acknowledged the supposed loss and expressed his condolences.

A few days later, the community was surprised to see Meho playing once again in the ESEA League. Either because he forgot to further cover it up, Zyrus took to Twitter to confirm that the story had been made up, while Meho went on to say it was all meant to be a meme, meaning he has no idea what memes are.
