Cuphead was released two years ago and is one of the shining indie titles of this generation. Many indie games, like Soul Axiom, Subnautica, and Celeste have risen as some of the most unique and atmospheric titles of this generation, but Cuphead stands apart from the crowd due to its unique art style and retro gameplay. Now, developer Studio MDHR is celebrating the game’s second birthday and five million copies sold with a sale on all platforms.

As stated in a tweet by Studio MDHR, the company declares its pride in Cuphead having gone platinum five times. A sale has also been announced for Cuphead. On all platforms Cuphead was released on, the game is 20% off for about a week. Furthermore, the company is celebrating five million copies sold with “5 days of fun and giveaways.”

The tweet can be seen below:

The post also includes Cuphead and Mugman (shown cutting a cake), who appeared in the original game, as well as tough-as-nails bosses King Dice and the Devil. Interestingly, the picture also includes Ms. Chalice from the upcoming DLC for Cuphead and another character that looks like a tall tea kettle.

Cuphead is likely one of the most memorable games of this generation. While not as profound as, for example, 2018’s God of War or Red Dead Redemption II, the game is totally unique or its implementation of 1930s cartoon-style presentation and gameplay that harkens back to the era of games like Contra, Gunstar Heroes, and more well-received side-scrolling shooters. Furthermore, it could be considered a Souls-like for its insane difficulty and discussion-worthy boss fights.

Cuphead will be seeing its DLC, Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, release next year on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. It looks to be just as tough as its predecessor with new bosses, gameplay elements, and other components yet to be seen, but with the same charming art style as the original Cuphead. Cuphead had garnered a fairly large audience between all of its platforms, so it is safe to say that The Delicious Last Course will see comparable success.
