Cyberpunk 2077 Characters Who Should’ve Been Romance Options

Cyberpunk 2077 has a limited selection of romance options for players, with five characters available total. Both male and female V can form full romantic relationships with one male and one female NPC, and there is also one character that can have a one-night stand with either V. With how Cyberpunk 2077’s story and romance structure is set up, it’s surprising that there aren’t many more romance options available. The amount of game-altering decisions could’ve increased significantly had certain characters been romanceable.

One thing that the romance system in Cyberpunk 2077 does well is make players think about their dialogue options. Because there is no designated romance meter or symbols indicating that a dialogue option progresses the relationship, players really have to think about how they want to respond. Relationships in Cyberpunk 2077 behave similarly to how relationships in real life work. Players actually have to get to know someone and gain their trust before forming a romantic relationship. Relationships in Cyberpunk can also be gender-locked with no obvious indication except how a character responds. Judy will reject male V’s flirtatious dialogue options because she’s attracted to women. Players won’t find that out unless they know beforehand, get rejected, or pay attention to how Judy behaves throughout the game.

Fortunately for players, romances aren’t limited to specific lifepaths. Players can choose any lifepath and romance any available character they want, as long as the player’s V is that character’s preference. Just as Judy prefers females, River Ward also prefers females. Players who use male V can romance Kerry and Panam. The only character who doesn’t have a gender preference is Meredith, but players cannot have a full relationship with her – players can only have a one-night stand with Meredith. Even though players do have at least two romance options regardless of which V chosen, there are seven interesting characters and fan favorites who should’ve been romanceable.

Cyberpunk 2077 Romance: Evelyn Parker

Cyberpunk 2077 Characters Who Should’ve Been Romance Options

Players first meet Cyberpunk 2077’s Evelyn in the prologue at Lizzie’s Bar. She’s the contact who helps V learn about the details behind The Heist job. Evelyn is, without a doubt, a character that many players hoped would be romanceable. Given what happens to her after the prologue, it’s understandable why she wasn’t a romance option. However, CDPR could’ve gone an alternate direction with Evelyn’s story that involves her getting better with the help of V and Judy, and redeem herself by aiding them in the takeover of Clouds. A potential key job to gain Evelyn’s heart could’ve been the jobs involving the Voodoo Boys.

Cyberpunk 2077 Romance: Claire Russell

Cyberpunk 2077 Characters Who Should’ve Been Romance Options

Claire Russell is a bartender who works at The Afterlife. V first meets her in Cyberpunk 2077’s prologue alongside Jackie when they wait for their meeting with Dex and T-Bug. After the prologue, players can ask Claire to immortalize Jackie by adding his favorite drink to the menu. As players continue to go through the game, Claire will call V asking if they’re interested in being her driver for Cyberpunk’s street races. If V agrees and meets her, that will starts Claire’s questline. Throughout the quests Claire will reveal more information about herself and her life, including information about her late husband who used to be her driver for races, her gender identity, and her lack of cybernetic implants. While it is evident that Claire is still mourning the death of her husband, having Claire be a romance option could bring new life to her character. The friendship between V and Claire is already there, so why not allow players who take it one step further?

Cyberpunk 2077 Romance: Goro Takemura

Cyberpunk 2077 Characters Who Should’ve Been Romance Options

Takemura is one of many important characters in Cyberpunk 2077’s storyline. Players first meet Takemura in Act 1, as he is the one who saves V from the junkyard. Takemura spends his time throughout the game trying to meet with Hanako Arasaka and tell her the truth about Saburo and Yorinobu.

While Takemura is an older character, it isn’t exactly known how old V is. A romance between the two may seem strange to some players, but if Takemura was a romance option, there are some good points in the story to develop the relationship between him and V. Perhaps saving Takemura and giving him the revenge he wants could be the catalyst for a relationship and the chance for V to get a new body.

Cyberpunk 2077 Romance: Saul Bright

Cyberpunk 2077 Characters Who Should’ve Been Romance Options

Saul Bright is the leader of the Aldecaldos, a Nomad clan living in the Badlands. Players will meet him during a mission in the main story that involves V and Panam, and see more of him if players choose to go through Panam’s story arc. Saul may seem like a hothead at first, but he warms up to V as he continues to help Panam and the Aldecaldos. Since Panam is already a romance option for male V, Saul would’ve made a nice nomad romance option for female V. Their relationship could be built on supporting Saul over Panam in the beginning and helping the Aldecaldos.

Cyberpunk 2077 Romance: Brick

Cyberpunk 2077 Characters Who Should’ve Been Romance Options

Brick is the supposed leader of the Maelstrom gang who was overtaken by Royce. Brick is held captive in the Maelstrom hideout when the player goes to meet Royce. If the player decides to go against Maelstrom there will be an option to find and free Brick. If Brick is freed he’ll say that he’ll return the favor if they ever meet again. There is an opportunity to see Brick again in a side mission, but he doesn’t seem to return the favor. If Brick was made a romance option, that favor could perhaps be a one-night stand with V, similar to the one players can have with Meredith Stout. It could also be interesting to have a full romantic relationship with Brick that includes an alliance with the Maelstrom gang. Given the potential ending outcomes that come with befriending certain people, a Brick romance could also lead to an ending that involves Maelstrom.

Cyberpunk 2077 Romance: Hanako Arasaka

Cyberpunk 2077 Characters Who Should’ve Been Romance Options

While this might be one of the least likely romances to actually happen, it could make for an interesting story. There are already many dialogue options available for Corpo V when interacting with Hanako. Corpo V’s background and loyalty to Arasaka could also perhaps play a role in one of the endings.

Even if Hanako isn’t a full romance option, perhaps she could reward V’s loyalty to Arasaka by giving them a new body. The trust between V and Hanako is already be established by Hanako willingly showing V the biggest secret Arasaka has, and it’s unknown what Hanako’s marital status is, so perhaps a potential romance isn’t too far-fetched.

Cyberpunk 2077 Romance: Yorinobu Arasaka

Yorinobu Arasaka and Corpo V actually aren’t that different. Both had corporate backgrounds. Both left the corporate world, and both can find themselves back doing Arasaka’s bidding. Yorinobu also isn’t too different from Johnny Silverhand – both of them want to destroy Arasaka. Had Yorinobu Arasaka been a romance option, perhaps players could’ve had the opportunity to destroy Arasaka from the inside out once and for all.

It is possible that CD Projekt Red will add additional romance options as part of paid DLC content. This wouldn’t be the first time it’s been done, as both the Blood and Wine and Heart of Stone DLCs for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt added more romance options for protagonist Geralt. It is also possible that more options can be added with free DLCs. While some fans may be satisfied with the romance options already available in Cyberpunk 2077, one can never have too many options.
