Chances are you if you make an open-world game with vehicles, people are gonna want to customise them. But Cyberpunk 2077 didn’t let you, so fans have added it themselves.

Open-world driving games have had vehicle customization for as long as they’ve existed. It was minimal in Grand Theft Auto 3, but you could drive into a repair shop and the colour of your car would change. The main purpose wasn’t customization but to avoid the police. Still, it’s more than Cyberpunk 2077 has. That evolved with GTA: San Andreas and Saints Row, setting the stage for some impressive choices in their respective sequels. Hot pink cruisers with mounted LMGs? Don’t mind if I do.

Vehicle Customizer, a new Cyberpunk 2077 mod, isn’t as in-depth as something like GTA 5, but it does let you swap the skins of your vehicles. “The vehicles the player can buy cannot be customised by default,” the mod page reads. “However, almost all the vehicles in-game have alternate appearances. This little mod allows you to swap around these alternate appearances on your player-owned vehicles.”

The mod adds a CET overlay you can open by pressing the ‘`’ key. When you’ve summoned your player vehicle of choice, you can use the drop-down menu to choose a skin, letting you change your vehicle’s appearance. It doesn’t let you toy with individual pieces like the wheels, colour, or window tint, but it does give you more choice in your aesthetic.

To install it, you’ll also need Cyber Engine Tweaks, a framework mod that lets other modders script with Lua to play around with the UI. They’re both fairly simple to install and use, so you can get in and make your car look a little less bland in no time.

Cyberpunk 2077 just got its first update in months while DLC is still reportedly on the way, but as fans are waiting, plenty are trying to iron out the game’s problems themselves. One fan has even managed to get the metro running, so you can travel through Night City on the rail seen in the trailer.
