Cyberpunk 2077 senior gameplay designer Paweł Kapała has left CD Projekt Red and joined Playground Games to work on the next Fable game.

The information appeared on Kapała’s LinkedIn account, where he confirmed that he was hired by the Fable developer for the position of principal gameplay designer. Kapała has spent the last seven years at CD Projekt Red, where he worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the game’s expansions before moving on to Cyberpunk 2077.

According to his profile, during the Witcher 3 development, Kapała designed and implemented boss fights, as well as worked on specific encounters, enemy AI and behavior, and so on. He also supported the implementation of Gwent, fistfight minigames, and took part in designing and executing the New Game Plus mode.

Later, Paweł Kapała became the key combat designer for Cyberpunk 2077, working on the game’s melee and firearms systems while closely cooperating with all departments to ensure a cohesive vision of combat in the game. Additionally, the dev balanced weapons to provide a high-quality first-person experience for the players.

It seems Kapała’s job at Playground Games will also include designing and implementing various combat systems in the upcoming Fable RPG. Considering the game is on the early stages of development, we still know very little of the project and its features, the combat included. However, according to some rumors, the new Fable will have both first and third-person perspectives available, so Kapała’s experience on Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 could be a very useful addition to the Fable team.

While Cyberpunk 2077 had a pretty rocky launch, CD Projekt Red has stated it is “quite happy” with the game’s current performance and stability. According to the studio, over 600 people were involved in the production of the game, and they are still working on the upcoming patches and updates.

Fable is currently in development for PC and Xbox Series X|S with no release window announced as of now. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said that the next Fable title will launch before The Elder Scrolls 6 and both titles will be “very different.”
