Stranger Things star David Harbour implied that there will be a season 5 of the supernatural thriller Netflix series. Stranger Things follows a group of four friends in the town of Hawkins. However, their world turns upside down when one of the friends, Will, disappears. Meanwhile, telekinetic Eleven escapes from a lab and emerges into their world. Will’s friends and family team up with the Eleven to rescue Will from unnatural forces.

Stranger Things seasons 1-3 are currently available for streaming on Netflix. However, viewers are still awaiting season 4. While the much-anticipated season was announced in 2019, shortly after season 3 was released, there’s still no word on when it will be released. The coronavirus pandemic forced the series to postpone filming. Even though filming has wrapped and Stranger Things season 4 trailers have been released, it is still not ready for viewing and it isn’t known how much longer the wait will be. However, the stars of the show have confirmed that the wait certainly will be worth it.

Harbour heavily hinted to ET Canada that fans of Stranger Things can look forward to season 5, even though season 4 hasn’t been released yet. When the possibility of a season 5 was brought up, Harbour gave a promising response. While he wasn’t supposed to talk about or even know this info, his proximity to the Duffer brothers has left him privy to certain insider details. He said that while filming for season 4, the Duffer brothers tended to “bring up things that might move forward into that next season.”

“Yeah, I think on my Netflix talking points list, I’m not supposed to say that there is a fifth season, but because you said it Jessica, I will say, and I’m also not supposed to know anything about it, but I will say that, sure.

“If you were on set with someone doing a show that possibly might have a fifth season, I’m sure that those people, if you were close to them, as I am with the Duffer Brothers, would probably bring up things that might move forward into that next season.”

Harbour plays Hopper, which is a pretty big role on the show. Even though his death was teased at the end of season 3, it appears that he will not only be returning for season 4 but for season 5. Hopefully leaking Stranger Things season 5 won’t put Harbour in too much trouble because fans couldn’t handle the heartbreak of potentially losing Hopper twice. Hopper developed a lot as a character. In season 1, he was the grizzled and hot-headed town cop. By season 3, he is raising Eleven on his own and his compassionate side comes out. As he will quite literally be resurrected in season 4, it’ll be interesting where his character goes from there and beyond into season 5.

Season 3 left viewers on a cliffhanger. Eleven and the gang were able to close the gate to the upside-down and kill the Mind Flayer. However, Hopper had to sacrifice himself in order for that to happen. Season 4 gives plenty to look forward to as they will find out what happened to Eleven and the Byers after they moved to Indiana, what the Russians will do to Hopper and what has become of the rest of the characters. If season 4 will be grittier and more mature, viewers can only imagine Stranger Things will take that to the next level for season 5.
