It takes a special kind of person to be a Pokémon trainer. You have to be energetic, intelligent, and willing to put the work in to build a relationship with every Pokémon in your care. From that perspective, Green Arrow would be a solid trainer. He’s focused and disciplined, and even has experience training young archers for the superhero game.
That being said, Oliver Queen would probably be quite specific about which Pokémon would be on his team. He’s definitely a Generation 1 man. You can bet he would stick with whichever Pokémon he selected as Green Arrow would be a loyal trainer.
10 Squirtle
Every prospective trainer needs to select a Starter Pokémon to work with. These Pokémon are certainly not inferior to others. They are the first Pokémon a new trainer is given to learn how to be successful in their new endeavor. A Starter Pokémon is also necessary to start catching wild Pokémon to be trained.
Some trainers will retire their Starters as they catch more wild ones, but many trainers keep developing their Starters until they’re one of their toughest team members. Green Arrow would be a trainer who stuck with his Starter. In his case, that would be Squirtle as he would want to evolve one to a Blastoise down the road.
9 Machamp
This massive, four-armed beast is about as tough a Fighter type Pokémon as you will run into. Hopefully, you don’t as Machamp can twist their opponents up and beat them down. They hit hard, dishing out a lot of punishment when called on. That’s right up Green Arrow’s alley.
He would get along well with Machamp, leading to a productive team up. Green Arrow could really put Machamp’s raw power to good use. As a talented fighter himself, he would understand how to direct Machamp in a combat situation. It could be a devastating combination.
8 Hitmonchan
The same would be true of another Fighting type, Hitmonchan. Green Arrow would immediately connect with him. He’s another fairly sizable Pokémon, one that loves to fight like a boxer. Green Arrow would have no trouble training a Hitmonchan to be a formidable combatant.
Plus, Hitmonchan and Machamp would make solid sparring partners, giving them both a chance to prepare for battle. Hitmonchan is fast and can deliver a barrage of accurate and devastating blows. He might not be the biggest Pokémon around but he has more fight in him than most.
7 Psyduck
When you first encounter a Psyduck, they often come across as dimwitted Psychic types who aren’t really capable of much. In truth, not every Psyduck is the same and many are quite effective with their psychic abilities in combat. It’s the headaches you have to watch out for.
Psyducks are frequently crippled by severe headaches that make it difficult for them to do anything. But those headaches actually seem to enhance their abilities, and are, as such, incredibly dangerous in combat. They just require patience to train properly, something Green Arrow has for the right projects.
6 Eevee
What would immediately draw Green Arrow to an Eevee are all the options on the table for evolution. If you branch out beyond Generation 1, Eevee has eight potential evolutions to work with, each one with different abilities. But as pointed out before, Green Arrow is undoubtedly a Generation 1 man, so he would stick to those evolutions.
That being said, Eevee is a solid Pokémon to have on your roster in its basic form. The key thing about Eevee is that it gives its trainer plenty of choices to look at and build towards.
5 Kangaskhan
Calling Kangaskhan a Normal-type really undercuts what a badass she is. A Kangaskhan is fast, strong, and knows how to hit. If trained properly, you can put her into a fight with pretty much any Pokémon and have a shot at winning. But the ace in the hole is her child, which she carries in her pouch.
If she senses her baby is in trouble, the beating she dishes out gets taken up five notches. If her opponent’s trainer is smart, they’ll keep their Pokémon away from the kid. She’s exactly the type of Pokémon Green Arrow would want on his team.
4 Jigglypuff
When you see the adorable pink sphere that looks nothing like Kirby around, you don’t think that something this cute will be necessary for your team. But a Jigglypuff can add an interesting dimension. They first use their eyes to mesmerize their opponents, then start singing a song that puts them right to sleep.
On top of that, certain Jigglypuffs have been known to draw on the faces of people and Pokémon they’ve put to sleep, though that only happens in very specific circumstances. Green Arrow would find it hilarious to watch Jigglypuff put Darkseid to sleep, then draw on his face.
3 Scyther
If you want a dangerous Pokémon with a sharp scythe on each arm, then you want a Scyther. They can fly at incredible speeds, making very little sound. Their attacks are frightening, to say the least. Scythers use their devastating scythes to cut down their prey and dissect them for lunch.
In the wild, they travel in packs, making them even more deadly. This dual-type Pokémon is not easy to get your hands on but Green Arrow would be more than willing to put in the work. A Scyther is an impressive addition to any Pokémon roster.
2 Arcanine
The speed, power and grace of Arcanine make it a highly desired Pokémon. Many suggest that Arcanines are favored by military types because they are incredibly loyal and highly effective in combat situations. Green Arrow isn’t a military man but he does get in a lot of fights.
An Arcanine would come in handy. The problem is that they are nearly impossible to find in the wild, and even more difficult to catch if you do. You have a better chance of getting a Growlithe and evolving it into an Arcanine.
1 Mr. Mime
Much like a real mime, Mr. Mime is incredibly annoying. Unlike real mimes, Mr. Mime is surprisingly effective in combat situations and have severe rage issues if you don’t like their acts. They can actually solidify air molecules to create tangible, but invisible, objects. They are incredible on defense and relatively good on offense. But that’s not why Green Arrow would want one on his Pokémon team.
He already has a roster of incredible fighters. Mr. Mime serves a much higher purpose and that is driving Batman nuts. A small, clown-like Pokémon constantly performing a mime act could only serve to give the Caped Crusader a nervous twitch, something that would make Green Arrow’s day.
