While the new preview for Teen Titans Academy sees the original Titans seeking to honor a fallen comrade by naming their new school after Roy Harper, it’s a little awkward seeing as how DC fans know that Arsenal has just come back from the dead. Despite the fact that the Titans Academy has just opened with its very first class of students, it looks as though they might need to change their school’s full name in coming issues. However, the Titans don’t yet know their old teammate has been resurrected… so it’s a bit awkward.

Teen Titans Academy #1 by Tim Sheridan with art by Rafa Sandoval is a new series from DC Comics that will serve as a means for the original Teen Titans to share their knowledge and teach the next generation of DC heroes. The new series will no doubt be a wild ride, especially considering it will also feature the present-day debut of Red X, the new and dark Titan who sacrificed himself to save the world in DC’s Future State. In any case, it looks as though the Titans are following Marvel’s Strange Academy, as both major comics universes now have new schools to teach their respective super-powered and/or magical youth.

In the preview for the first issue, the Titans Academy’s first-class arrives and they’re all given an introductory speech from their new teachers. Additionally, it’s also revealed that the full name for the school is the Roy Harper Titans Academy, and there’s even a statue of Roy near the academy’s front door. While these were no doubt meant to commemorate and honor Roy’s past heroics and life, it does come across as a tad awkward since Infinite Frontier #0 revealed that’s he just’s come back to life. Here’s the preview pages and synopsis for the issue from DC Comics:

  • Welcome to Teen Titans Academy! Packed with both new, super-powered teens and numerous dark secrets, Teen Titans Academy’s student body includes Shazam; a new Australian speedster; a trio of Goth(am) teen expatriates obsessed with Batman—and one member of this first class will become the deadly Red X. Original New Teen Titans including Nightwing, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, and Beast Boy take on the role of teachers and mentors for superpowered teens. Their goal: to shape the next generation of heroes.

While it’s pretty funny and awkward, it’s not as though the Titans teachers can be blamed. As far as they know, Roy Harper is still dead. For whatever reason, Arsenal has determined to remain anonymous (though he did think about calling Green Arrow in Infinite Frontier #0). However, as soon as Roy Harper’s resurrection becomes public knowledge, it seems likely that the Teen Titans will want to think about changing their school’s name to a different fallen hero in future issues of the series from DC Comics.
