Death’s Door publisher Devolver Digital has announced that the critically-acclaimed action-adventure game will be released on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 23, 2021. Death’s Door, which is developed by the two-man team of Acid Nerve, was initially released last July on PC and Xbox platforms. Death’s Door received praise from players and critics during its initial launch, because of its distinct presentation, smooth difficulty curve, and intuitive level design, among other things.

Inspired by games such as Dark Souls and The Legend of Zelda, Death’s Door puts players into the shoes of a Crow, tasked to collect the souls of the dead for the Reaping Commission Headquarters. Unfortunately, a soul is stolen from the player near the start of the game and they have to chase after the thief across several different locations. Players face a variety of monsters during their adventure, so they’ll have to utilize the weapons they collect and Death’s Door’s variety of upgrades and abilities to defeat them.

Devolver Digital announced that Death’s Door will be coming to the PS4 and PS5 during Sony’s latest State of Play presentation, with a trailer that can be viewed on the PlayStation YouTube channel. The announcement trailer showed footage from the game that is said to have been captured on a PS5, as well as its release date on the two platforms, which is set for November 23, 2021. The game is also now available for preorder, and those that purchase it before release will get a free copy of Acid Nerve’s previous game from 2015, Titan Souls. It’s unclear which platform the free copy of Titan Souls will be for, but it’ll most likely be the game’s PS4 release.

Giving out Titan Souls for free gives those who pre-order Death’s Door a chance to try out the game that somewhat led to its creation. The 2D top-down action-adventure title inspired some of Death’s Door’s themes and elements, and to some degree the recent title serves as a follow-up to Titan Souls. Additionally, Death’s Door will also be released on the Nintendo Switch at the same time as PlayStation platforms, although it’s unclear whether pre-ordering the game on the Switch will also earn players the Titan Souls bonus.

It’s always great when games are released on more platforms to allow more people to experience them, especially when they’re indie games as critically-acclaimed and well reviewed as Death’s Door. It not only helps the game reach a wider audience but it also helps the studio gain more recognition beyond the game’s initial release, and the duo at Acid Nerve certainly deserve it.
