Demon Slayer’s Zenitsu is a cowardly flirt whom fans have fallen in love with, yet a new gender-bent cosplay makes the lightning warrior fierce.

Appearances can be deceiving in the world of Demon Slayer, and few illustrate this better than Zenitsu which naturally makes him a popular subject for cosplay. Though Zenitsu might not have reached the heights of Inosuke’s infamy, his inherent likability have made many fans wonder what the lightning warrior would look like as a woman.
Debuting in the manga’s sixth chapter, Zenitsu instantly stood out as a memorable character. Initially appearing as both a coward and a hopeless romantic, Zenitsu had Tanjiro wondering how such a weird person could ever survive the training to become a Demon Slayer. Readers quickly saw how though. Whenever Zenitsu either falls asleep or gets knocked out, his true powers awaken. Wielding the powerful Thunder Breathing technique that imbues all his attacks with electricity, Zenitsu has proven himself as a ridiculously competent fighter, slaying countless demons. The switch between goofy and fierce is key to Zenitsu’s appeal, but it’s the latter that most comes through in a new gender-bent cosplay.
Coming from cosplay artist Moonkiller17, the cosplay shows a gender-bent version of Zenitsu who is clearly unafraid of a fight. Of special note are the wig and the sword. The wig is unmistakably Zenitsu’s iconic mop of blonde hair, while the subtle lighting effect on the sword really makes it stand out. Scrolling through the images on the set of two posts, it’s clear that Moon used the cosplay to its fullest, taking several pictures. The cosplay didn’t escape notice from fans of both the Demon Slayer manga and anime. The first photoset received almost 20,000 likes on Instagram and even attracted the attention of Zenitsu’s English voice-actor, Aleks Le. Check out the incredible cosplay below!

Given how accurate the cosplay is, it’s no wonder that Moon would receive such an outpouring of support. Gender-bent cosplays like this are fun because they can put fan-favorite characters in a completely different light. While Zenitsu’s dogged pursual of Nezuko is typical for a male comedic relief character like him, it’s interesting to imagine how different that dynamic would appear if the genders were flipped. Though this cosplay doesn’t portray that sillier side to Zenitsu’s character, it still invites fans to imagine that alternate universe where Zenitsu was a woman.
Cosplay is a great way for fans to show their appreciation and love of a character. Though Zenitsu spends a great deal of his time as something of a goofball, it’s those brief flashes of scary competence that make him a well-rounded character. With her gender-bent cosplay of this well-loved Demon Slayer character, Moonkiller17 shows that Zenitsu is so much more than he initially appears.
