Destiny 2 Players Discover Glitch That May Reveal The Future Of The Tower

Reddit Destiny 2 players have noticed a glitch in the Tower that may have just spoiled Season of the Worthy’s endgame.

Redditor PaperMartin was the first to report seeing parts of the Tower in ruins after loading into a glitched Tower instance. Several other players soon supported his findings with screencaps of their own smashed up Towers, and Destiny 2’s Reddit has been running away with it since.

Guardians have spent the entire season building up Rasputin’s defenses to protect the Tower against the free-falling Almighty, but with Rasputin fully online, the Last City is celebrating with a three-week-long event: the Guardian Olympics. A break well-earned, but considering that the textures for the ruined Tower have only been found with Destiny 2’s most recent patch, maybe we’re resting on our laurels a little too soon.

The damage isn’t extensive. It’s mostly focused around the Eververse store, the area above where Rahool usually stands, and where the purple ball spawns, but the fact that it exists at all suggests Rasputin’s protection may not be as complete as Zavala and Ana hope. Redditors have hypothesized that while the Almighty is ultimately diverted before obliterating the Last City, it’s a close enough call that pieces of debris from the Almighty will end up smashing parts of the Tower.

That’ll be big if true, and a narrow escape from a civilization-ending disaster would allow Bungie another opportunity to show off more of the impressive cinematic cutscenes they’ve been rolling out each Season. But one has to wonder: is there more? Each Season since Shadowkeep’s launch has introduced dangerous, but not insurmountable obstacles for Guardians to overcome. First the Vex and the return of the Black Garden, then rescuing Saint-14, and now the Almighty, hurtling down toward the Last City.

Three times would make a trend that would cause future seasons’ trajectories to be quite predictable, but Bungie’s thrown a wild card in with Season of the Worthy. Since the Seraph bunkers launched, players have been able to track developments in the solar system with the mounted wall map included in every one of Rasputin’s bunkers. When the Io bunker went live, players noticed a couple of pyramid-shaped ships breaching the very edge of the map. A week later, the ships had multiplied and were inching steadily closer to Earth.

Longtime fans of Destiny might recognize the Pyramid Ships as harbingers of the series’s big bad: the Darkness, an unknown entity or force bent on the destruction of the Traveler and any and all life it fosters. And if Rasputin’s trackers are right, it’s making fast progress toward the Last Safe City.

Players and Guardians may have stomped every challenge Bungie has thrown their way thus far, but with the endgame villain looming just over the horizon, who knows what Destiny 2 might have in store?
