Screenshots from the upcoming Destiny 2 season, Season of the Chosen, reveal that the mysterious spaceship from the season’s trailer will act as an Exotic Quest location. Destiny 2, a massively multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Bungie, released back in 2017. Since then the game has received numerous post-launch updates and expansions, including a transition to a free-to-play model in 2019 with an update known as New Light.

Bungie recently announced the newest season of Destiny 2 content, titled Season of the Chosen, which will run from February 9 to May 11. The new Season brings a number of additions to the title including new weapons, like the Ticuu’s Divination bow, and the new three-player Battlegrounds game mode. New Strikes will take players to unique locations such as Devil’s Lair and Fallen S.A.B.E.R. The season’s story will see players caught in the middle of an intergalactic war, forcing them to face off against Empress Caiatl and her Cabal forces. The season’s trailer ends with a shot of a mysterious, and seemingly dilapidated, spaceship.

Screenshots from Season of the Chosen’s press kit, released via Dropbox, reveal that the mysterious spaceship seen in the season’s trailer will be the setting of a new Exotic quest. While the images themselves are fairly nondescript, the image names specify that they depict the location of an Exotic quest. Destiny 2’s Exotic quests vary wildly in terms of length and difficulty, but each of these adventures unlocks a special Exotic item. These rare items, whether weapons or armor, possesses unique perks and stats.

While Destiny 2 is mostly known for its multiplayer shooter gameplay, Bungie has created an intricate universe and storyline through the game’s many content drops. The sequel carries on the narrative of the first game while introducing a huge amount of new characters, locations and ideas. The story of the game’s most recent expansion, Beyond Light, requires quite a bit of backstory in order to fully understand the narrative. As the game’s seasons progress the story continues to go in new and interesting directions, shocking fans as villains find redemption and old mysteries are replaced by even deeper questions.

Destiny 2’s Season of the Chosen is the latest in a long, long line of additional content for Bungie’s massively multiplayer looter shooter. While the presence of a new Exotic quest is not particularly surprising, the ominous new location does raise a few eyebrows. Now that the newest season has officially begun, fans will be eagerly awaiting a chance to explore this monolithic spaceship.
