As promised, Destiny 2 is tackling some of the thornier issues which arrived with The Witch Queen’s new crafting system. Players have complained since the expansion’s release that the drop rates for both Deepsight Resonate weapons and Ascendant Alloys were so low that it was taking days of grinding the new Wellspring activity to unlock even a few Enhanced traits on the new craftable weapons, and it was basically impossible to craft the new Exotic Glaives.

In a patch arriving next Thursday, Bungie will take its first shot at tackling these two complaints. “We will be increasing the drop chances for both standard and Deepsight Resonance versions of these weapons,” wrote Bungie in yesterday’s blog, which should go a long way to assisting players in unlocking craftable weapons blueprints.

As for Ascendant Alloys, those too will be getting a boost in their drop rates on Master Wellspring difficulty. Additionally, the better the team does, the better the odds of receiving an Ascendant Alloy when the activity is over, with the odds increasing depending on whether you achieved silver, gold, or a platinum-level score.

While Guardians are likely to appreciate these changes, more fundamental problems remain with Destiny 2’s crafting system. Crafting costs, in general, remain far too high to encourage any sort of experimentation with perk combination. Acquiring those materials requires the use of weapons that are often far worse than veteran Guardians have in their armories, forcing them to grind easier activities until the materials can be unlocked. And weapon leveling requires many times more kills than any Exotic Catalyst has ever required in Destiny 2’s history, making it a season-long effort of constant use to achieve max level.

That said, it seems Bungie is at least paying attention to these issues. “Some things take a bit of time to address,” the Destiny 2 developer noted, “as we want to make sure the fixes that we implement do not create more issues for us to solve.”

Other issues on Bungie’s radar include the revamped Gambit activity and several Enhanced traits that have resulted in game-breaking power ahead of Saturday’s World First Raid. One-Two Punch has been disabled as it was allowing Titans to hit for millions of damage, and Enhanced Pulse Monitor was similarly disabled for giving Guardians a magazine size so large that it was triggering the game’s anti-cheat software.
