Destiny 2’s Fall expansion has leaked ahead of Bungie’s Thursday reveal, proving that nothing is safe from premature revelations where gaming is concerned.

The game’s Season of Opulence coding has apparently provided dataminers with enough to reveal that an expansion called Destiny 2 Shadowkeep is set to send players back to the moon this fall.

According to a ResetEra thread, graphic and art relating to this were retrieved from the game’s PC files that line up a disclosure of Bungie’s plans. As mentioned above, the devs are set to make an announcement on Thursday, but fans may already know what’s to come as a result of this leak.

“The next chapter in the Destiny experience arrives this fall as terrifying shadows descend upon a forgotten moon,” the text from the image reads. “Return to the lunar surface. Journey deep into a mysterious enemy citadel. Become a slayer of nightmares.”

The forgotten moon here is most probably Earth’s moon – it does look like our nightlight from the picture so, yes, Earth’s moon. The Traveller is also shown above.

As original Destiny players would know, the moon was pretty much a favored location in the game and it’s where the Hive race was first encountered.

This expansion is set to send you to your wallet if you’re keen on it – assuming it really is on the cards – but that hardly comes as a surprise. The image quite clearly states that it will be available to pre-order, while it also reveals that a Collector’s Edition is in the works.

Destiny’s Rise of Iron expansion didn’t come with a Collector’s Edition, so you’d be safe to assume that Shadowkeep will be a huge expansion similar to the likes of The Taken King and Forsaken just because it has one.

An official reveal is expected this Thursday as Bungie will be streaming live, but let’s just wait and see – or, for Destiny fans, wait and hope.

In the meantime, the game’s Annual Pass, Season of Opulence, is here. It can be kicked off by completing a new quest for Benedict in the Tower and has some top 690 gear on offer.
