Players woke up today disappointed that they won’t be able to acquire the Felwinter’s Lie due to a bug in the quest.
The Lie dropped last week in Destiny 2 to some controversy. Although players were excited to see the return of the Felwinter’s Lie shotgun from Destiny 1, the community portion of the questline was (at least initially) considered to be a pretty tall order.
At the start of “The Lie” questline, the Destiny 2 community was required to complete 9 million Seraph Tower public events. That’s a lot even if the entire Destiny 2 community devoted all their playtime to completing these events, but after spending the last two-and-a-half months grinding Seraph Towers, the community was largely burnt out.
In order for the quest not to take several months to complete, Bungie had to step in and adjust the required number of completions downward, providing Guardians with a 10x boost to completions last weekend.
With that community portion of The Lie out of the way, the quest turns to more individual endeavors, requiring Guardians to speak to Ana, investigate a map in the EDZ, and then get 1,000 shotgun kills. After that you’re supposed to head to the Moon, talk to Rasputin, do another brief mission, and then you’re awarded Felwinter’s Lie.
At least, that’s what players were expecting from datamined quest logs. Unfortunately, nobody was able to complete the Moon portion of the quest to find out.
According to the Destiny subreddit, the quest is bugged. After speaking to Rasputin and clicking on the mission banner, players are just transported to the Moon’s spawn point instead of the actual mission. This prevents the mission step of the quest from being completed and prevents folks from getting Felwinter’s Lie.
Community manager Dylan “dmg04” Gafner took to Twitter early Monday morning to confirm that the quest is bugged and that Bungie will investigate first thing in the morning. The Destiny subreddit, however, is not pleased with the news.
With Bungie working from home, we can only assume that playtesting that would have been done in the office was not completed for this quest and a bug managed to slip through. We’re keeping an eye on the Bungie Twitter account to see when this bug will be fixed.
