When Season of the Splicer dropped last week, Guardians were surprised and delighted to hear Ikora Rey speak for the first time in over a year. The Warlock Vanguard had been radio silent since the Shadowkeep expansion, an unusually long time for any of Destiny 2’s characters, but the Warlock Vanguard made her triumphant return to relevance last Tuesday.

However, it wasn’t the voice of Gina Torres that Guardians heard when Ikora introduced the new season’s storyline. Many Guardians picked up on the switch right away, but we didn’t know who had taken up Ikora Rey’s mantle until very recently when her new voice actor revealed herself.

Mara Junot took to Twitter recently to make herself known as the new Ikora Rey with a quote from the Warlock Vanguard. Junot comes from an extensive background in video game voice acting, having dozens of credits to her name. Some of her work includes the voice of Zeyna Ossou in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, Alleria Windrunner in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, Nyoka in The Outer Worlds, Sindel in Mortal Kombat 11, Lisa in Genshin Impact, the Barbarian in the upcoming Diablo Immortal, and many, many more.

Of the original three Vanguard leaders, only Lance Reddick continues in his role as Titan Vanguard Zavala. Cayde-6’s Nathan Fillion was out before 2018’s Forsaken expansion and was replaced by Nolan North just before Cayde’s death. North also replaced Drifter voice actor Todd Michael Haberkor briefly in Beyond Light, but that was just for one mission and only because Haberkorn was unavailable at the time.

We’re not entirely certain if Junot is permanently replacing Torres, but given the fact Torres has been absent for well over a year, it would make sense for a more available voice actor to step in going forward.
