The 20th anniversary of Diablo II quietly came and went without much fuss, and while there was no major announcement made like the remastering of the game, players still have something to look forward to. To celebrate the event, players who log into Diablo III on PC and console will be rewarded with a free pair of Prime Evil Wings. There is no exact duration listed for claiming these items, so players will likely be able to log in for a few weeks and still nab them.

The wings themselves look great on all characters, and like other cosmetic wings, are fashioned after one of the main characters from the story lore. In this case, the wings are clearly made with Tor’Baalos, the Lord of Destruction in mind, known more commonly as Baal, one of the three Prime Evils. The choice to model wings after this character is fitting giving the prominence of Baal in the expansion Diablo II: Lord of Destruction.

While the free cosmetic item is a treat this long after the release of Diablo 3, it is a shame that no real news came regarding a remaster for Diablo II. In order to ensure that unsubstantiated rumors did not begin flying around, Community Manager PezRadar made the unusual move of pre-emptively confirming that no news was forthcoming, “We don’t usually comment on rumors, but before this hype train goes off the rails we wanted to clarify that there are no upcoming Diablo announcements in June,” he began, “The minions of hell are hard at work getting ready for the start of the next Diablo III Season, bringing you the next Diablo IV quarterly update (very) soon™.”

At this point, players can expect the next major Diablo game release to be centered around two titles, Diablo Immortal, and Diablo IV. Based on the timing of each game’s first announcement, Diablo Immortal should be the first the launch, possibly this year. Diablo IV meanwhile is still in early development, at least from Blizzard’s perspective.

Luis Barriga, the Game Director for the Diablo IV team, recently stated that, “we still have a lot of work ahead of us and to be clear, we are not at an Alpha or Beta stage yet. We don’t typically discuss our early milestones publicly during development, but we think it’s especially important to continue to share our progress during a year without a BlizzCon.” The comment was made regarding the recent progression of the game in its ongoing development, and there is still clearly some time to go before we see anything resembling a finished product.
