Digimon 5 Pokémon Tai & Agumon Could Beat (& 5 Theyd Lose To)

The original hot-headed Digimon protagonist who helped coin the term “Gogglehead,” Taichi (aka Tai) Kamiya, and his Digimon partner Agumon remains as one of the most memorable pairs the franchise has ever seen. Together with their DigiDestined friends, they’ve been able to do great things and beat powerful enemies, getting stronger and stronger with time.

Yet even after all these years, Digimon’s rivalry with the always popular Pokémon still rages strong. Still, after all that Tai and Agumon have been through, there’s definitely quite a bunch of these “Pocket Monsters” that they could take down with ease, but also a few that they wouldn’t stand a chance against.

10 COULD BEAT: Pikachu Because It Isn’t Fully Evolved

Digimon 5 Pokémon Tai & Agumon Could Beat (& 5 Theyd Lose To)

Agumon versus Pikachu, the two mascots of their respective franchises and the matchup that most would likely bring up first. Pikachu is cute and cuddly, but also pretty strong and has been able to pull off feats that most common Pokémon could never pull off. However, against Tai and Agumon, Pikachu wouldn’t last.

While there’s an argument to be made about how well Agumon would fair against the little electric mouse in his Rookie form, all bets are off once Tai gets Agumon to Digivolve. Greymon’s strength and durability alone could probably shrug Pikachu off pretty easily. Pikachu’s only hope would be to Gigantamax, but Tai and Agumon have experience dealing with giant foes. The power gap would only increase if Agumon Digivolved further.

9 WOULD LOSE TO: Gardevoir With The Ability To Create Black Holes

Digimon 5 Pokémon Tai & Agumon Could Beat (& 5 Theyd Lose To)

There aren’t many Pokémon that are like Gardevoir, being both highly intelligent and able to connect with their trainer on a deep emotional level. That bond is probably as close as a Pokémon to a Digimon’s bond with its partner. Against Tai and Agumon, Gardevoir would probably struggle at first, even if it Mega Evolved, but Gardevoir does have one ability it could use as a last resort.

The Pokédex speaks of Gardevoir being able to create black holes to protect its trainer, which might just win Gardevoir the fight even if Agumon went all the way to the Mega Level since black holes are inescapable. Would this likely suck in everything, possibly even the trainer in question? Most likely, but it would still count as a win.

8 COULD BEAT: Ditto Who Doesn’t Know How To Take Full Advantage Of Agumon’s Form

Digimon 5 Pokémon Tai & Agumon Could Beat (& 5 Theyd Lose To)

Agumon, with all of his various evolutions, has been able to take down plenty of foes that match his own strength, though something that could copy him, like Ditto, could prove to be a challenge. Ditto can copy anything it sees, even humans, so it’s very possible that Ditto could even copy a Digimon.

Ditto could copy any of Agumon’s forms, but that doesn’t mean Ditto knows how to take advantage of them. Where Ditto acts more on instinct or by the order of its trainer, Agumon is more intelligent and more experienced in battle, so he would be able to exploit openings and weaknesses in ways Ditto couldn’t.

7 WOULD LOSE TO: Mewtwo As One Of The Most Powerful Legendary Pokémon

Digimon 5 Pokémon Tai & Agumon Could Beat (& 5 Theyd Lose To)

It becomes increasingly clear that there’s a big power gap between most Pokémon and Digimon, to the point where it seems Legendary Pokémon are almost the only ones out of Pokémon’s vast catalog of creatures capable of taking on the digital monsters. One of those Legendary Pokémon that could do the job without a doubt, is Mewtwo.

Mewtwo’s psychic powers make it insanely powerful even among other Legendaries, making it more than a match for Tai and Agumon. While WarGreymon might be physically stronger and fast enough to keep up with Mewtwo, Mewtwo’s psychic powers give it more defense options, control over the battlefield, and even regeneration. Also, neither Tai nor WarGreymon have any defense against Mewtwo’s telepathic abilities, essentially Mewtwo could just take over their minds or wipe their memories to end the fight.

6 COULD BEAT: Lucario Whose Strength Would Not Be Enough For WarGreymon

Digimon 5 Pokémon Tai & Agumon Could Beat (& 5 Theyd Lose To)

A skilled fighter even among Fighting-Type Pokémon, incredibly fast, and a master of the power of aura, Lucario would be a tough opponent for a lot of Pokémon. However, against a Digimon and its partner, like Tai and Agumon, Lucario’s strength and raw power might just fall short.

Lucario does have a lot of stamina for a long battle, and it’s arguable that it could be a match for Greymon and possibly MetalGreymon, but it likely would tap out against WarGreymon. WarGreymon’s armor has withstood the kind of force that Lucario’s been able to dish out at max strength even when Mega Evolved, and WarGreymon’s speed outperforms Lucario’s too. Not to mention, Agumon’s many fiery abilities in all his forms would be super-effective against Lucario.

5 WOULD LOSE TO: Necrozma Who Is Capable Of Destroying Planets

Digimon 5 Pokémon Tai & Agumon Could Beat (& 5 Theyd Lose To)

There are many Legendary Pokémon capable of some devasting things to a planet, a solar system, and even a universe, Necrozma is among them. Even when drained of power, Necrozma is highly durable and was able to survive the ravages of time for hundreds of years. Once it starts absorbing light, however, it becomes much more powerful.

While Tai and Agumon (as WarGreymon) may have a shot while Necrozma’s in its basic form, the chances of victory start to dwindle once Necrozma starts feeding off the light. Necrozma could likely absorb their attacks like “Terra Force,” making it stronger and stronger, which limits Tai and Agumon’s offense. Necrozma is capable of absorbing light out of an entire universe and if it reaches its ultra form, it could probably cut through WarGreymon’s armor like a hot knife through butter.

4 COULD BEAT: Regice With Easily Exploited Weaknesses

Digimon 5 Pokémon Tai & Agumon Could Beat (& 5 Theyd Lose To)

The Regis have been known to be on the shallower end of the strength pool compared to other Legendaries, and Regice has been notorious as the weakest link among them. While’s it’s durability and stamina is high, given the nature of its icy golem body, it’s got a lot of weaknesses that could very easily be exploited by Tai and Agumon.

WarGreymon’s Terra Force is capable of blowing up a mountain, and his claws are strong enough to cut through solid steel, which would already mean it could easily take out Regirock and Registeel, so Regice wouldn’t even have a snowball’s chance of winning.

3 WOULD LOSE TO: Giratina As A Pokémon Made Of Anti-Matter

Digimon 5 Pokémon Tai & Agumon Could Beat (& 5 Theyd Lose To)

Giratina supposedly had some role in helping Arceus shape the universe, but due to its violent behavior, it was banished to the Distortion World. Giratina is a Pokémon that should be feared, being made entirely of anti-matter, equal to the time and space Pokémon Palkia and Dialga, and able to warp reality itself.

On top of all those things, Giratina can become intangible, create illusions, manipulate darkness itself, and has cosmic awareness. Already this makes fighting Giratina near-impossible for Tai and Agumon, but what really sends it over the top are the implications that Giratina may exist conceptually and quite possibly is the Distortion World itself. Tai and Agumon don’t exactly have a way to erasing the concept of anti-matter.

2 COULD BEAT: Rayquaza Who Would Be Weak To WarGreymon’s Dramon Killers

Digimon 5 Pokémon Tai & Agumon Could Beat (& 5 Theyd Lose To)

When its territory is invaded or Groudon and Kyogre clash, Rayquaza is on the scene rather fast. On a good day, Rayquaza’s strong enough to battle its fellow Legendaries with ease and destroy cataclysmic meteorites. Its strength and speed are tough to match, but WarGreymon might just be able to.

Admittedly this matchup would be pretty close since both Rayquaza and WarGreymon have been able to perform similar feats of speed and destructive capabilities. However, WarGreymon might just squeeze out the win thanks to its armored claws the “Dramon Killers” which were designed to slay dragons. Since Rayquaza is weak to Dragon-Type moves, the Dramon Killers could work the same way.

1 WOULD LOSE TO: Arceus As The God Of Pokémon

There’s no dancing around this one, Arceusis basically a god that stands above all other Pokémon, a legend among Legendaries. Arceus created the Pokémon universe, which includes the aforementioned Giratina and other powerful Pokémon which it has overpowered in the past.

Much like Giratina, Arceus is cosmically aware and exists eternally as an abstract concept and is basically unstoppable, and that’s before it has any of its plates. While Tai and Agumon have faced enemies on world-ending power scales, that was with the help of the other DigiDestined. Alone against a being like Arceus, they don’t stand even 1% of a chance.
