Discord has teamed up with WallStreetBets in order to help moderate the incredibly large server. The subreddit has been attributed as the main cause behind GameStop and AMC stocks skyrocketing, creating a class war at the stock market.

GameStop stocks started the year at roughly $20 a share and have skyrocketed to nearly $500 at their peak in the last week. As more and more people have jumped in on this scheme, it has led to lots of chaos and drama in WallStreetBets’ own Discord. The subreddit’s server was shut down by Discord for users being too offensive, throwing around slurs and going against the terms of service. Discord issued multiple warnings to WallStreetBets but the owners said that users were finding workaround against their own moderation.

After a social media outcry, Discord has confirmed that WallStreetBets has returned to the platform with help. Discord has committed to assisting the nearly 300,000 person server with moderation. “WallStreetBets members have set up a new server and we are working with them,” says a Discord spokesperson speaking to The Verge. “We will welcome the group back so long as they improve their moderation practices and follow our Community Guidelines. We have reached out to the moderators to provide them with support and advice, like we do for many of our large communities.”

The server is now far less obnoxious and toxic, which is pretty impressive given the insane scale of the server. A number of other smaller servers have also bubbled up this past week to help create more concentrated communities. Users have been sharing tips, teaching new investors, and watching films like The Wolf of Wall Street. The anxious investors continue to reiterate how grateful they are to have a group of people to actively talk to, especially following stocks entering a free fall. The Discord communities have created friendships, new investors, and also planted seeds for potential wealth for many young adults.

Regardless of what happens, the state of the stock market will change forever. The introduction of players like WallStreetBets on Reddit and Discord have helped rival the hedge funds on Wall Street with crash courses on investing and more. They run all day and all night, placing a lot of power on the free market if it does truly remain free following this historic moment. Analysts are speculating that all of this could even go on to save failing companies like AMC and GameStop from certain doom.
