Disney movies always have heroes, villains, love interests and, of course, sidekicks. These are usually animals, and they are there to provide guidance, as well as comedic relief. And some definitely provide one of these things more than the other… Just look at Jiminy Cricket versus, say, Olaf!

So, yes, these supporting characters are beloved and necessary, and they all have their own unique strengths and skills. This list, though, is all about ranking them based on their intelligence. So think about the brightest, most knowledgeable, wisest, most informed and smartest Disney sidekicks… and see 10 of them ranked below!

10 Olaf

Olaf is a fan favorite sidekick from Frozen, and he is known for his silly behavior, goofy songs and uplifting spirit. He may not be the brightest bulb, but he spreads sunshine and cheer wherever he goes.

Plus, let’s remember, he is simply made of snow, while most of the other characters on this list are actual, breathing, living creatures. So he does pretty well for himself!

9 Flounder

Disney sidekicks are, above all, true friends, and one of the best pals from this magical universe would be Flounder; he listens to Ariel, helps her out, supports her, and is there for her, even when no one else is.

In The Little Mermaid, these two faced some scary situations, and Flounder was shown to be scared and stressed. He can hide this fear, though, doing whatever it takes to support Ariel, and this definitely seems wise!

8 Mushu

On a positive note, Mushu is funny, loyal and powerful, and upon first glance, he seems like he would rank pretty highly on this list. However, he can be selfish and impulsive, and he talked Mulan into joining the army, just to make himself look good. So his smarts tend to get overshadowed by his egotistical and immature moves, even though he did redeem himself in this movie.

7 Timon & Pumbaa

Next up would be Timon & Pumbaa, a dynamic duo from The Lion King. Pumbaa, a warthog can be protective yet childlike, while Timon has been known to be selfish yet loyal.

These two are also credited with the song and motto Hakuna Matata, which means no worries. This is a great way to look at life, as there will be things that can’t be controlled. The fact that they passed this knowledge on to Simba, during a time when he needed it most, was very bright and beautiful.

6 Jaq & Gus

Another duo would be Jaq and Gus, mice from Cinderella. Jaq is daring, a quick thinker, and the leader of all the mice, while Gus is a bit slower and more focused on eating. However, these two have both faced some real bumps in the road, all to help their beloved Cinderelly.

Additionally, they can outsmart cats, move throughout giant houses with the help of secret tunnels, and design clothes, as all of Cinderella’s furry friends created a gorgeous gown for her.

5 Pascal

In Tangled, fans got to meet a chameleon named Pascal. Unlike most Disney animals, this little guy cannot talk, but he still communicates quite well.

For one, he helped Rapunzel see that she needed to escape. Secondly, he is always rooting for her and assisting her, which is pretty impressive. He also is a great judge of character, since he was not a fan of Mother Gothel and was slow to warm up to Flynn, just in case. Yes, Pascal is definitely a smart and caring pal!

4 Genie

A popular and well-known Disney sidekick is The Genie from Aladdin, and as a magical being, he belongs on this list. He possesses power and knowledge, as he grants wishes, provides lots of laughs, sings incredible songs, and assists the main characters.

3 Timothy Q. Mouse

Timothy Q. Mouse wanted to help Dumbo get rich and famous and rescue his mother. That being said, he showed off his wisdom and guidance in this film.

Furthermore, he knew that Dumbo was going through a very rough time, so while he was pushing this elephant, he never pushed too far or too hard. That insight showed even more intelligence from this mouse.

2 Lumiere

It is now time for the two characters who may be the smartest sidekicks of all, beginning with Lumiere. This candelabra is kind and full of energy, and he serves The Beast, working in the castle and advising this main character and others.

However, he has a bit of a rebellious side, which may be viewed as disobedient and disrespectful. These defiant ways, though, are done due to the fact that Lumiere looks a few steps ahead and decides what he thinks will be best for everyone. Usually, he is right, as his hospitality, love of romance, and boldness paid off, ending in a happily ever after for all!

1 Jiminy Cricket

Perhaps the most intelligent sidekick from Disney is Jiminy Cricket. His humor shows wit and wisdom, his bravery (even against villains much larger than him) shows maturity, and he is, after all, an official conscience. This wise leader belongs in the number-one spot on this list!
