The first trailer for Disney’s Christopher Robin is now online. A live-action adaptation of Winnie the Pooh has been in development for almost three years. The Mouse House first announced plans to develop Christopher Robin in 2015, shortly after the studio achieved worldwide success with Kenneth Branagh’s Cinderella, starring Lily James. The film proved that Disney’s trend of producing live-action films based on their past animated properties was a good bet.
Quantum of Solace and World War Z director Marc Forster is directing Christopher Robin based on a script by Alex Ross Perry (Golden Exits) and Allison Schroeder (Hidden Figures). Tom McCarthy (Spotlight, 13 Reasons Why) also wrote a draft of the film last year but isn’t officially credited for writing the final screenplay. This film marks the first time in 14 years that Forster has worked with Disney. The filmmaker previously directed 2004’s Finding Neverland for Miramax Films (when the company was still owned by Disney), which garnered seven Academy Award nominations. Now, Forster seems to be looking for another round of success with Christopher Robin, starring Ewan McGregor as the eponymous Christopher Robin and Hayley Atwell as Evelyn Robin, with legendary voice actor Jim Cummings voicing Winnie the Pooh. Cummings has voiced the character over a dozen times since 1997. Christopher Robin doesn’t release for another few months, but Disney is looking to give audiences a sample of the film.

Disney released the first trailer for Christopher Robin today, thus providing viewers with their first look at the upcoming live-action Winnie the Pooh film. According to Christopher Robin’s official synopsis, the film centers on a grown-up Christopher Robin who has lost his imagination. So, his friends – Winnie the Pooh (Cummings), Tigger (Chris O’Dowd), Piglet (Nick Mohammed), Eeyore (Brad Garrett), Rabbit (Peter Capaldi), Kanga (Sophie Okonedo), and Owl (Toby Jones) – return and try to help him recover his imagination. Disney’s upcoming film is unrelated to Fox Searchlight’s live-action movie, Goodbye Christopher Robin, from last year, which was directed by Simon Curtis and starred Will Tilston and Alex Lawther as the young and older versions of Christopher Robin, respectively. While the 2018 Disney movie centers on the character of Christopher Robin (from the Winnie the Pooh stories and franchise), Fox’s 2017 film focused on the inspiration for the storybook character, the real-life Christopher Robin, who was the son of Winnie the Pooh creator and acclaimed novelist, A. A. Milne.
Oscar-nominated film composer Jóhann Jóhannsson (Sicario, The Theory of Everything) was originally hired to compose the original soundtrack for Christopher Robin. Sadly, Jóhannsson passed away in February 2018, thus leaving Christopher Robin without a composer. Disney has since hired Klaus Badelt to compose the film’s score, who is known for being a frequent collaborator of Hans Zimmer’s, having worked on films such as Pirates of the Caribbean and The Thin Red Line.
