Doctor Sleep and Hush director Mike Flanagan wants to make a Star Wars horror movie — a combination that gets less strange the more you think about it. It sounds like several of his industry colleagues would like to see that happen too, including actor Rahul Kohli from Flanagan’s Midnight Mass.

The Star Wars universe is already a bit of a wild mishmash of different genres and mediums, and there always seems to be something in the works. Disney is a constant revolving door with series spin-offs, so perhaps the most surprising thing here is that it hasn’t happened yet. Yet even well-known directors like Flanagan may have trouble getting their hands on a galaxy far, far away.

Flanagan, known for The Haunting of Hill House and Doctor Sleep, has shared his sudden revelation for the idea on Twitter.. “Got woken up by the earthquake this morning, sat there for a few minutes just thinking “I’d really love to make a horror movie in the Star Wars universe…” Flanagan wrote.

Flanagan’s famous friends instantly backed up the idea, noting it’s a dream they share for the director. Actor Rahul Kohli replied with a picture of a terribly mutated Death Trooper from a Star Wars novel written by Joe Schreiber. It left an impression on voice actor Laura Bailey, who held roles in Star Wars: The Old Republic and Kinect Star Wars. “This is everything,” she wrote.

Director Edgar Wright was also impressed with the idea, saying “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Darth” as a response to the discussion. Elijah Wood, who faced a few scary creatures of his own with his role in Lord of the Rings, also chimed in with interest.

While Flanagan’s words sparked a conversation, it’s doubtful that fans will see ghouls like Darth Maul in a horror film any time soon. Disney doesn’t seem like it would be quite as interested in limiting the audience of Star Wars to something more frightening. However, with the MCU moving towards R-rated projects, perhaps there is hope for Star Wars horror one day.

Of course, Disney still has plenty of Star Wars content planned out. From Hayden Christensen’s possible return in the Ahsoka Tano TV series to the unannounced Star Wars-related video game — Disney isn’t wasting any opportunity to expand the franchise.
