Does Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Hisuian Voltorb Mean A Hisuian Electrode

The newest Hisuian regional variant announced for Pokémon Legends: Arceus is the Apricorn-inspired Hisuian Voltorb, which naturally leads fans to wonder if there will also be a Hisuian Electrode. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set to release on January 28, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch. It takes place in the Sinnoh region in the past, when it was known as Hisui.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus continues the trend begun by Pokémon Sun and Moon, including regional variants of older Pokémon. These form changes give classic Pokémon new designs, types, and even moves and Abilities. All, Galar, and Hisui each have their own regional variants, the newest being the Electric- and Grass-type Hisuian Voltorb in Legends: Arceus, based on the older model of Poké Balls.
Although Pokémon Legends: Arceus may throw some curveballs of its own, thus far regional variants have followed certain patterns that make it possible to predict that Hisuian Voltorb will have an evolution. There have been some regional forms that evolve from a standard-form Pokémon, such as regular Exeggcute evolving into Alolan Exeggutor. But thus far, no Pokémon with the capability to evolve further has been given a regional variant without a regional evolution of its own. Because Voltorb can normally evolve further, it’s very safe to say that Hisuian Voltorb will have an evolution that is new in some way. But as of now, there’s just as much chance that its evolution will be Hisuian Electrode as it could be an all-new Pokémon.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus & Hisuian Voltorb Follow Past Trends
In Pokémon Sun and Moon, all regional variants of not-fully-evolved Pokémon saw the rest of their evolutionary line get regional forms with them. Pokémon like Alolan Vulpix, Mouth, and Geodude had the name number of subsequent evolutions as before, except they were all Alolan forms. Galarian forms follow the same idea, with Pokémon like Galarian Ponyta evolving into Galarian Rapidash, and Galarian Darumaka evolving into Galarian Darmanitan. A similar pattern is beginning to form in Pokémon Legends: Arceus with the confirmation of Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark. There is no case of an NFE Pokémon losing its NFE status when given a regional variant thus far, and there is no precedent for a regional variant Pokémon to evolve into a regular form of an older Pokémon, so Hisuian forms like Voltorb and even Growlithe are almost certainly going to evolve into something that hasn’t been seen in a past game.
But Pokémon Sword and Shield shook things up with the addition of all-new evolutions to regional variants. Instead of evolving into Galarian Persian, Galarian Meowth instead evolves into Perrserker, and Galarian Yamask evolves into Runerigus instead of a Cofagrigus variant. Additionally, Pokémon that were previously fully-evolved, such as Mr. Mime and Linoone, received Galarian forms as well as new evolutions, Mr. Rime and Obstagoon. Something similar is already confirmed for Pokémon Legends: Arceus – Basculegion and Wyrdeer are all-new Pokémon confirmed to evolve from Basculin and Stantler, respectively. Neither Basculin nor Stantler have been shown yet, however, so they may in fact be receiving Hisuian forms of their own, similar to how Sirfetch’d was revealed before Pokémon Sword and Shield released, but Galarian Farfetch’d wasn’t.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is looking as though it’s keeping to the established traditions of past regional variants. It’s highly unlikely that Hisuian Voltorb won’t evolve at all, or that it will evolve into a regular Electrode that won’t fit in with the older setting of the Hisui region. Hisuian Voltorb may evolve into an all-new Pokémon or Hisuian Electrode, but even a Hisuian Electrode has a chance of getting a new evolution all its own.
