Fresh off the 35th Anniversary celebrations for Super Mario Bros., the latest Mario remaster is nearly here. Super Mario 3D Land + Bowser’s Fury is coming to Nintendo Switch in February. The original game, which released on the Wii U in 2013, allowed up to four players to traverse levels and take on Bowser’s evil minions together. However, this was only available as local co-op, which has led some fans to wonder if the Super Mario 3D World remaster will have online multiplayer as well as local co-op.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is one of the most anticipated titles coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2021. A new website dedicated to the game appeared last week, and a new trailer was released earlier today. So, it’s somewhat surprising that online co-op will be supported in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and it’s a new feature that many fans are celebrating.
Like local co-cop, online multiplayer in Super Mario 3D World will support up to four players at one time. In order to play Super Mario 3D World or Bowser’s Fury online, though, each player will need a Nintendo Switch, a Nintendo Online account, an internet connection, and a copy of the game. After that, players are free to make their ways through the content together online. It’s an exciting new feature, and it’s one that will surely help sales when the game releases in February.
Even though a lot of Nintendo games historically haven’t supported online multiplayer, that’s not the case for Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. The remaster for Switch is getting online co-op support, which means people can play the game with friends from the comfort of their own homes. And, if it’s successful, perhaps more Nintendo titles will get online co-op in the future.
