The Find N is OPPO’s first foldable smartphone, and like other flagships released in 2021, it packs impressive specifications and features, but does it have a stylus? The few manufacturers that have launched a foldable smartphone try to cram in the best possible features including a great display, multiple cameras, and software that takes advantage of the form factor.
OPPO’s first attempt at a foldable is a remarkable one. Its design allows it to stand out from its main rival which many will view as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. The phone has a compact form factor, a flagship Snapdragon processor, triple rear cameras, two front-facing cameras, and support for fast charging – wired and wireless. OPPO rounds everything off with a killer price tag too.
The Find N has an inner display that measures 7.1-inches when unfolded. In this state, it looks like a small notebook, and for those who find themselves using the device more frequently in this mode, typing can sometimes become uncomfortable. An alternative input method when in this tablet-like mode is a stylus. Unfortunately, the Find N does not have support for a stylus, and thus, doesn’t come with one. Considering the N could stand for Note, OPPO appears to have missed a trick by not including the support. However, there is a plausible reason why it is missing and that’s the Find N’s inner display is the largest on any OPPO smartphone. Stylus support is commonly found on tablets and as OPPO has never made a device (read: tablet) with a display this large before, it has no experience with making one. This also largely means its ColorOS isn’t designed for a stylus input, so it sort of makes sense why it didn’t add the feature to the Find N.
A Stylus Could Ship With A Successor
While the Find N missed out on stylus support, there is a chance that a successor won’t make the same mistake. This is because OPPO is expected to launch its first tablet next year and possibly with a stylus. If that happens, OPPO can use the feedback from users to incorporate a stylus into its next foldable smartphone. However, by adding a stylus to its foldable, it probably should be expected that a price increase will come too, due to the cost of the added components.
In the meantime, those who want a foldable with stylus support will have to skip OPPO’s foldable and consider opting for something like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3. Even then, however, the buyer will also have to purchase the stylus separately considering Samsung doesn’t include one in the box. If OPPO does add a stylus next time, hopefully it will be included with the purchase, even if that results in a higher price.
