How did Double Shot at Love season 2 star Pauly build his DJ career? Many people who remember the hirsute musician from his days on Jersey Shore have been scratching their heads trying to figure it out. However, before anyone makes the assumption that his success is just a fluke, they should really get to know Paul DelVecchio.

Pauly D, as he’s known professionally graduated high school in Rhode Island and immediately went to work as a used car salesperson. He dabbled in DJing around his town, raking in a few hundred dollars here and there. In 2009, he was cast on Jersey Shore after being discovered on MySpace. As the show’s male breakout star, he earned legions of fans who fell in love with his witticisms and even wackier hair. During this time, he started to build his brand. He developed a clothing line and his own tanning products. With massive exposure on a hit MTV show, Pauly continued to book gigs, upping his cachet with each engagement. He managed to tap into the white-hot Las Vegas market, which increased his exposure to the high-roller crowd. There, he was a marquee draw rivaling Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, and other hot DJs with huge followings.

In 2012, he told Forbes, “Everybody was skeptical at first, because how everybody heard about me is probably from Jersey Shore,” he explained. “But now I’m six seasons deep in the show and I’ve been touring all over the country, touring with major pop acts and stuff like that. That legitimizes everything, and they’re starting to say, ‘This kid isn’t just a reality star, he’s an actual DJ.'” That year, he was worth about $11 million. By 2018, his net worth had jumped to a reported $24 million.

The major boost in income came from a number of sources. In 2012, he was credited with booking roughly 132 shows. By the time Jersey Shore rapped production, he had a tour with Britney Spears under his belt, and had collaborated in the studio with rapper Big Sean. Between 2012 and 2019, Pauly D released three singles, but still managed to return to his television roots. More paychecks came in from the reality show, Famously Single, in which DelVecchio fell in love (or something like it) with fellow reality TV mainstay Aubrey O’Day, as well as Marriage Bootcamp: Reality Stars 11. In 2019, he and his Jersey Shore housemate Vinny Guadagnino then became the leads of their own series, A Double Shot at Love on MTV. They followed that up with A Double Shot at Love 2 which began airing in 2020. Through it all, Pauly D’s career as a DJ never faltered. That’s why he’s one of the more successful names in the game.

He may look like a basic party boy, but Pauly D is actually an astute business man. From his fist-pumping debut on Jersey Shore, to his meteoric rise in the club scene, he’s his own empire. So many people spend years and money educating themselves in institutions of finer learning. Meanwhile, this nice kid from the neighborhood has taught the world a crash course on how to make it in America.
