The latest recipient of a medical license in the Mushroom Kingdom is going to be really helpful for people who are injured out at sea, as Dr. Blooper is coming to Dr. Mario World later today.

Dr. Mario World is a free-to-play mobile title based on the popular puzzle series. The game has playable doctors and assistants, each with their own special abilities. The fact that the game is set in the Mario universe means that there have been some peculiar choices for playable characters, including Dr. Dolphin (who is a dolphin, as the name suggests) and Dr. Goomba Tower, which is three Goombas standing on top each other.

The next character to come to Dr. Mario World is just as strange as some of the previous additions to the game, as Dr. Blooper will be added to the game today. Dr. Blooper is based on the Blooper enemies that originated in the first Super Mario Bros. game, and have appeared in numerous other entries in the series. The Blooper enemies glide towards Mario in the water, leaving the player to navigate its bizarre movement pattern. Dr. Blooper’s arrival was announced on the official Dr. Mario World Twitter page. The nature of Dr. Blooper’s special abilities wasn’t revealed in the Twitter post, and it’s unclear exactly how it will operate surgical equipment with its six tentacles.

Dr. Mario World is also adding a new level on August 26. The theme of the level involves sunken ships in a bay, and it contains 20 new stages with puzzles for players to tackle.

Dr. Mario World continues to scrape the bottom of the barrel of the Super Mario Bros. franchise in search of new characters. The fact that the game is Nintendo’s least successful mobile venture means that we will hopefully be spared from the likes of Dr. Phanto and Dr. King Wart, before the game finally stops being supported, or at least stops adding new characters.

Dr. Blooper and the new level will arrive in Dr. Mario World later today at 11 PM PT.
