Obviously Vegeta is the most popular, but the results of Viz Media’s Dragon Ball Super popularity poll also include Goku Black, Krillin and Granolah.

It should come as no surprise that Vegeta just crushed a Dragon Ball Super popularity poll conducted by Viz Media this month. Mangaka Akira Toriyama might have been favoring Goku ever since Gohan made studying a priority over fighting and even began pursuing vigilantism as the Great Saiyaman. But fans have been waiting for Vegeta to surpass Goku for so long and are, to put it bluntly, sick of Goku always saving the day that it’s impossible not to favor the Saiyan Prince. Everyone loves an underdog, especially a brooding and egotistical dog with a strong code of honor.
Despite always coming up short, Toriyama has been providing Vegeta with more opportunities to finally best his friendly rival in Dragon Ball Super. Undoubtedly the most promising and exciting one recently transpired in Dragon Ball Super’s 74th chapter when Vegeta achieved a new form that seems to serve as some sort of hybrid of the God of Destruction’s power and Ultra Instinct. Although the Saiyan Prince has yet to test out his new transformation, it’s not just exciting because it’s new, but because it’s not just another Super Saiyan form.
Even before this pivotal moment, Toriyama began dropping some serious hints during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, suggesting that Vegeta might finally surpass Goku, fueling a hope in fans that the mangaka has been perpetually dousing ever since he launched Dragon Ball Super. The most promising was when Vegeta traveled to Planet Yardrat where Goku learned Instant Transmission and was told that he was essentially more talented than Goku for being able to polish his spirit more thoroughly than Goku did and in a much shorter time span. All of Vegeta’s training there culminated in more good news for Vegeta fans when he mastered a technique that Goku tried and failed to learn. Clearly this would be popular with fans, as the Viz Media poll reveals that they love Vegeta more than Goku.

Besides Vegeta snagging first place from Goku, another major result that fans might find interesting is that Goku Black took fourth place. The Future Trunks Saga was, undoubtedly, a highly complicated arc that transcended time and universes. Originally known as Zamasu, his popularity undoubtedly correlates to how he resembles Goku after the former North Kai of Universe 10 wished to switch bodies with him. But the complexity of his scheme, which even involved a version of himself from an altered timeline, undoubtedly played a role as well. Though, it should be noted that Super Saiyan Rose is undoubtedly the worst transformation ever created.
Although there’s something incredibly appealing about an evil Goku, it’s somewhat surprising that he ranked higher than Granolah, though the reason might be because most fans who voted haven’t read the manga. What makes Granolah’s character so appealing is his connection to Saiyan legacy; he’s the sole survivor of a Saiyan massacre much like Baby from Dragon Ball GT. It’s not surprising, however, that Moro didn’t rank as high as him, which is a shame since his character, along with the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, started with such promise. As for Krillin? Maybe everyone is just still angry about the time Frieza stole his Destructo Disc and thinks he deserves some love. Conversely, Vegeta will always be consequential in Dragon Ball Super, hence why he placed first in Viz Media’s popularity poll.
