Derek Hough is set to return to the Dancing With The Stars season 30 ballroom tonight following his recent exposure to COVID-19. Derek was a professional dancer on the DWTS from seasons 5 through 23. With six Mirror Ball Trophies under his belt, Derek traded in his dancing shoes for a seat on the judges’ panel. The ongoing DWTS season 30 is his second season as a judge.

Last week, Derek was absent from the live show due to possible exposure to COVID-19. In addition, dancing duo Cheryl Burke and Cody Rigsby were also missing from the show for a second consecutive week. Cheryl tested positive for COVID-19 prior to the second live show of the season. Then, just a few days later, Cody tested positive as well. Last week, for the first time in the history of the show, the duo performed both virtually and independently in order to stay in the competition.

Now, Derek will be returning to the ballroom following his COVID-19 scare. Page Six confirmed that Derek is in fact healthy and will be rejoining fellow judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli for tonight’s live episode. After missing out on Britney Night last week, Derek will be back in the ballroom for the two-part Disney Night this week. During last week’s live show, DWTS host Tyra Banks explained to viewers at home that Derek was in fact “fully vaccinated and tested negative.”

Since Derek never actually tested positive for COVID-19, his absence last week was simply out of precaution for both himself and the rest of the Dancing With The Stars cast and crew. Unlike Cheryl and Cody’s virtual presence, Derek didn’t partake in the live show. In addition to Derek returning to the ballroom tonight, Cheryl and Cody will also be rejoining the other remaining couples for Disney Night. Because they have been quarantined for the last two weeks, this will only be Cheryl and Cody’s second time performing live together in the ballroom. Over the weekend, Cheryl and Cody reunited inside the rehearsal studio following their two weeks apart.

For the first time on Dancing With The Stars season 30, the dancing pairs have been preparing for not one but two brand-new dances. Tonight, the couples will perform dances based on Disney heroes. Then, tomorrow night, the couples will return to the ballroom for a bonus live episode during which their performances will be based on Disney villains. At the conclusion of the two-part Disney Night, another dancing couple will be eliminated from the competition.
