One of the key tenants of Dying Light 2 is that it allows you to choose between two factions, the Survivors and the Peacekeepers. Doing so will change certain elements of the plot and which characters you encounter, but you can also assign different structures throughout the open world to either faction in order to unlock specific upgrades.

Even if you’re deciding to help the Peacekeepers in the story, you can choose to assign parts of the map to the Survivors, and vice versa, so it’s a pretty open system depending on what kind of upgrades you want to see. The upgrades will only work for whichever part of the map is controlled by which faction, so don’t expect to see Air Bags in Peacekeeper territory.

Generally, Peacekeepers focus more on weapons and structures, while the Survivors install devices that help you parkour around the world. It’s essentially split like the skill tree is, with one focusing on movement and the other focusing on combat.

Which Should You Go For?

It’s completely up to whichever playstyle you go for. Generally, the Peacekeepers upgrades are more situational and focused on combat scenarios, while the Survivors give you more movement options.

In our experience, the Survivors upgrades are much more fun to use and add to the game’s strongest element – its traversal. Meanwhile, the Peacekeeper upgrades don’t give you any XP for setting off any of the traps, which means you’re taking away from potential experience earned from taking down zombies. The Peacekeepers do give you a crossbow though, so they do have that going for them.

Unfortunately, the most useful skill comes in both factions’ fourth tier – the crossbow for the Peacekeepers and the Survivor Revival for the Survivors. You can’t split them evenly either, so at least one of the factions can hit tier four. It’s worth basing it off of which of those two upgrades you want more.
