Yu Suzuki’s ambitious Shenmue games garnered a loyal cult following in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Like many cult classics, the following never got big enough to warrant continuing the series. In 2015, the impossible came true, and Shenmue III was officially announced, along with a Kickstarter campaign that closed with over six million dollars raised. After this enthusiastic announcement, the game went quiet, only periodically popping up to confirm its existence. An August release date was set, but that was recently pushed back until November. Attendees were finally able to play it at the show this year.

Wolfenstein: The New Order and its sequel, The New Colossus, blew away people’s expectations, delivering heart pounding fire fights along with a somber story, recalling dark alternate history novels like Man in the High Castle. Doom Eternal is doubling down on the commitment to the classic Doom carnage. Many reboots of classics will embrace modern conventions to varying degrees of success, but Doom knows what people want and how to give it to them. Impressions from the show floor relay that this remake is bringing the unique spirit of the quirky spin off with it to the modern console.

1 Have To Wait A Little Longer: Halo: Infinite

Without Halo, it is difficult to say if the XBOX would have succeeded the way it did. The series isn’t the titan that it once was, but that could change with Halo: Infinite ushering in the next generation of Microsoft.

They are aiming to launch the game side by side with Project Scarlett, letting gamers see the console’s innovations through the eyes of Master Chief. Save for any potential delays, the game will be on store shelves by holiday 2020.
