E3 2021 has officially come to an end, but fans were treated to some exceptional sneak peeks at what the gaming industry has to offer over the next few years. While heavy hitters like PlayStation and EA were missing from the line-up, that didn’t stop the other studios from bringing some brilliant games into the spotlight.

Indie games were a major staple of this year’s expo, and, while many of them look like amazing experiences, much of the focus remains on upcoming projects from major publishers. With some massive titles ready to launch over the next few months and some previews of what’s currently in development, the next-gen era is certainly looking bright.

10 Elden Ring (January 21, 2022)

Elden Ring has perhaps been one of the most anticipated games of the past few years. A fantasy epic from Bandai NAMCO and FromSoftware, the story and gameplay of the title are being developed by Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin.

Fans didn’t really know what to expect from the spiritual successor to Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, but FromSoftware delivered a great first trailer that featured new gameplay. What’s more, there were plenty of interviews detailing the level of customization players would have, as well as new information in regards to the narrative threads of the game. It launches on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on January 21, 2022.

9 Metroid Dread (October 8, 2021)

Many speculated that Nintendo could steal the show at E3 this year, and it could certainly be argued that they did. One of the biggest shockers of the night was the return to a fan-favorite franchise that has become synonymous with the Nintendo brand.

Developed for the Switch by MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD, Metroid Dread will mark the return to the Samus series. A 2D side-scroller, Dread looks to replicate the familiar elements of older hits while also marking a new era for the brand. Nintendo even released a detailed timeline of the game’s development.



8 Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora (TBD, 2022)

Fans haven’t properly stepped into Pandora since the release of James Cameron’s original record-breaking blockbuster Avatar back in 2009. While Disney tried to keep the franchise alive with their Disney Parks expansions, this is the first time in a while that audiences will witness the Na’vi in any form of media.

The new trailer from Ubisoft revealed a great deal of information in regards to the gameplay and the richness of this open world. The first-person sci-fi adventure will see players control a Na’vi warrior as they fight against the invading human, RDA forces. Massive Entertainment has clearly captured the beauty of the planet and its species in Frontiers Of Pandora. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, and Luna sometime in 2022.

7 Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy (October 26, 2021)

Marvel Studios’ Guardians Of The Galaxy might not be heading back to the big screen for some time, but fans now have another cosmic adventure to anticipate. Square Enix and Eidos Montreal have created a single-player campaign that sees fans suit up as the team’s leader, Star-Lord.

With Groot, Drax, Rocket, and Gamora all on the team, as well as some other surprising character additions, the trailer, deep dive, and the gameplay footage for the title all demonstrated just how much fun it might be to play. After previously developing Marvel’s Avengers, it appears that Square Enix has learned a great deal from their past comic book ventures. It releases on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on October 26th of this year.

There are very few games that fans demand sequels for as much as Breath Of The Wild. The Nintendo Switch title was a smash hit and is still considered to be one of the best available on the platform. Naturally, Hidemaro Fujibayashi and Nintendo EPD went to work on a follow-up to the Zelda title.


Breath Of The Wild 2 appears to pick up on Link’s adventure where he left off. The teaser trailer largely holds back on any narrative details, but it does show off some of its impressive gameplay footage, with beautiful rendering and smooth character movement and combat.

5 Battlefield: 2042 (October 22, 2021)

The Battlefield franchise has gone through a variety of incarnations, but the latest game in development from DICE and EA Gothenburg takes players into the future of 2042.

With state-of-the-art vehicles, impressive Blade Runner-esque landscapes, and a lethal array of soldiers, players will embark on a war that will test their limits. The reveal trailer for the title has boasted Battlefield: 2042’s next-gen capabilities, while the gameplay trailer showcased why this could be the best entry into the series yet. The game releases on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on October 22nd of this year.

4 Halo Infinite (TBD, 2021)

Xbox had a variety of games to showcase at E3 2021, but fans were eagerly awaiting news on the brand’s most famous exclusive franchise, Halo. The new Infinite title is being developed by 343 Industries and will be published by Xbox Game Studios.

With the studio aiming its release around the holiday season, this massively multiplayer online experience will be available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The multiplayer and campaign trailers, as well as gameplay footage, teases the most extensive addition to the Master Chief narrative yet.

3 WarioWare: Get It Together (September 10, 2021)

Early footage from the Nintendo EPD and Intelligent Systems title indicates that WarioWare will be as wacky as ever. Nintendo was proud enough of the game to release both a reveal trailer and gameplay material that showcase the franchise’s trademark mini-games—with a multiplayer twist!

2 Forza Horizon 5 (November 9, 2021)

Forza Horizon marked a fresh start for the video game franchise and often the car-racing sequels have been some of the most hotly anticipated exclusives in Xbox history. A huge reason for that is the quality of the gameplay, smoothness of the controls, and stunning nature of the graphics.

Showcased by Xbox and Bethesda Studios, Forza Horizon 5 garnered a great amount of attention thanks to both its announcement trailer and its gameplay footage release. The vehicles appear to be more impressive than ever as Microsoft gears up for launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC on November ninth.

1 Sea Of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life (June 22, 2021)

Sea Of Thieves developed by Rare and Xbox Game Studios was a surprise hit upon launch despite its relative lack of content. The multiplayer RPG swashbuckling adventure has continued to evolve, with the game eventually launching on Xbox Series X|S, alongside its initial Xbox One and PC releases.

Disney has now entered the fray, with Microsoft’s E3 2021 presentation revealing that the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise would be included in the A Pirate’s Life expansion. With a trailer featuring Jack Sparrow, Davy Jones, and a host of allies and enemies, this was easily one of the most unexpected and fun announcements from the event.
