Amazon’s third-generation Echo Show 10 is the newest model to come from the company and sports an all-new auto-rotate feature. The device is the most unique of its kind with an entirely new design, but how does it compare to its predecessor? The previous second-generation Echo Show was a huge success for the company.

The Echo Show made its big debut in June of 2017 and offered many of the same features as Amazon’s Echo speaker, but with one major difference – the Echo Show had a screen. The user could now use their Echo to video chat with a friend, view their front porch camera, or just to watch their favorite shows. This was a big step up from the other smart speakers and although other competing displays have come through since then, Amazon’s Echo Show line remains a popular option for consumers.

Since the release of the first Echo Show, newer versions have made improvements specifically to the screen size and quality. Previously, the Echo Show second-generation was the newest model with a premium 10-inch display that’s complimented with a Dolby speaker. However, with the confirmation of the third-generation Echo Show 10, it is clear Amazon is not focused on display and size improvements, but fundamental design and feature changes.

Right of the bat, the Echo Show 10 third-generation looks very different. The screen seems more like an attachment to the round main body, although it is this exact design that allows the device to rotate 360 degrees. This is unlike the Echo Show second-generation’s display which adopts more of a box-like design. Similar to the Echo Show second-generation, the third-generation model utilizes a 10.1-inch HD touch screen display. However, the newer model features a different speaker setup, comprised of two 1-inch tweeters and a 3-inch woofer, instead of the dual 2-inch neodymium drivers included with the previous model. Finally, the third-generation draws on both a MediaTek 8183 and Amazon AZ1 Neutral Edge processor, compared to the second-generation model that solely relied on an Intel Atom x5-Z8350 processor.

The biggest draw for the Echo Show 10 third-generation will be the auto-rotate feature as this allows the display to move and follow the voice of the user. Whether they are on a video call or watching a show, wherever the user goes the device will rotate to make sure the user can always see the screen. The device can even do a full 360-degree scan of the room for security purposes, allowing the user to see everything inside the room when they are elsewhere.

With this new innovative auto-rotating design and updated specs, the Echo Show 10 third-generation is a major improvement over the second-generation. What’s more, priced at just $20 higher makes the decision to go for the third-generation display even easier. Amazon has yet to announce a release date for the new Echo Show smart display, but consumers can expect it to be released soon.
