Evil Geniuses extends Goldenglue’s contract after the team’s upset victory over Cloud 9. Goldenglue originally signed a contract set to expire on July 22, 2020, just one week after his signing.

After a losing streak, EG decided to bench midlaner Jizuke in order to start Huni and Goldenglue. The seemed to be out of sorts after a strong start to the split. Immediately after the roster swap, EG upsets the first place team Cloud 9 on the back of Goldenglue’s strong Zoe play. This bodes well considering this roster has only been practicing together for less than one week. EG hopes the change will carry into playoff success.

The intent behind signing Goldenglue mostly came from the team wanting to start Huni. Due to the LCS import rule, the team could only start two imported players. If the team wanted to start Huni, either Bang or Jizuke had to be sent to the bench. The team chose the stability Bang brings and brought in the native midlaner, Goldenglue, to comply with import rules. The victory does not mean Goldenglue will start for the rest of the split, however. Jizuke was one of the strongest members on EG throughout the spring split and the team certainly will not hesitate if this current roster can not continue this level of success.

In a recent interview with Travis Gafford, Huni was asked if EG was really that good or if C9 played poorly. “I think we are this damn good.” says Huni. He continues to say “I don’t have any pressure to perform at 1000%. I have the same mindset like I was on SKT.”

This level of confidence does bring hope to EG fans. While Goldenglue has had an inconsistent career, he is surrounded by veterans with both domestic and international success. This means EG’s success does not depend on Goldenglue dominating the competition. He only needs to bring stability while the rest of the roster plays aggressively. Huni, historically, brings aggression and volatility to the top lane and if EG, and specifically Goldenglue, can enable and support him, success will come.

EG plays the 9th and 10th place, Immortals and Dignitas, this weekend.
