Elden Ring is a sprawling world that hardly needs its praises sung even after only being out a short amount of time. With a realm so dense and full of lore it only makes sense that there would be multiple paths for the player to choose from for an ending.

Miyazaki and FromSoftware are no strangers to multiple endings, all of their games have them. But Elden Ring has more endings than any FromSoftware game in the past. As of writing this, there are six known endings, and it is very possible that more could be uncovered as the community continues to dig into the nuances of the game. For right now, let’s compare the six known endings, and which ones are the best for the game’s overall story.

6 The Age Of Fracture

Age Of Fracture is the standard ending to the Elden Ring story. If you run straight to the end of the game with no side quests or additional exploration to find the items necessary to unlock alternate endings, your only option upon defeating the mortifying Elden Beast will be to mend the Elden Ring. Once the ring is mended, you become the Elden Lord and rule over the Lands Between.

This isn’t a bad ending, just the most standard, and that’s why it goes at the bottom of the ranking. It’s the safest ending. One where you defeat the monster and rise to the top – we cut to black before seeing the ramifications of any of it. The other known endings show much more while still leaving us with a lot to linger over.

5 The Age Of The Duskborn

The Age Of The Duskborn ending comes from completing Fia’s side quest and beating the optional Lichdragon boss. In this ending, your character restores the death rune to the Elden Ring, and everyone in the Lands Between can truly know death for the first time since Queen Marika initially removed the rune so long ago.

In a way, this feels like one of the more natural endings to the Elden Ring story. Your character becomes Elden Lord and restores something to the land that had been lost for eons. The ending feels more bitter than sweet, though, because granting the ability for everyone to die is a bit of a backhanded victory. And aside from restoring death, no other meaningful change seems to take place.

4 The Blessing Of Despair

The Blessing Of Despair ending comes from completing Dung Eater’s side quest. It’s crazy to think that a character named Dung Eater gives you a rune that ultimately can change the fates of everyone in The Lands Between, but that’s FromSoftware for you.

The rune that Dung Eater gives you before his death brings a terrible curse upon the Lands Between that fills the sky with ugly colors that look like the boils on Dung Eater’s skin and fills the air with a putrid-looking fog. The exact details of this curse are vague, but it’s referred to as “The Blessing Of Despair”. Which sounds like a kind of Hellraiser-esque “Joy and suffering are two sides of the same coin” ideology. It’s interesting, although it begs for a little more detail.

3 The Age Of Order

The Age Of Order ending comes from completing Goldmask and Corhyn’s side quest. This seems to be the best of the more standard endings. In this ending, like in The Age Of Fracture, you still ascend to become the Elden Lord. But in this ending, you’ve used the Mending Rune Of The Golden Order to repair the Elden Ring.

What exactly this does is a bit vague. The rune is discovered by the player on Goldmask after his death, and its purpose is fixing a flaw Goldmask perceived within the Golden Order that he called “the fickleness of the gods”. So many have theorized what the exact differences are between this ending and The Age Of Fracture, but the main thing that’s certain is the Lands Between are showered in a golden light in this ending and something has been shaken up amongst the gods who allowed such chaos to befall the lands in the first place.

2 The Age Of The Stars

The Age Of The Stars ending comes from completing Snow Witch Ranni’s complicated but very entertaining side quest. This ending is as fascinating as it is grim, and it’s spawned a great deal of speculation as to whether this should be perceived as a negative or positive ending. Rather than your character becoming the ruler of the Lands Between in this ending, Ranni does, with you at her right hand. She says in The Age Of Stars she wishes to make “Sight, emotion, faith, and touch all impossibilities”.

While on the surface that seems almost like a transition into a torturously lonely existence, it’s also a shift away from the terrible faith and dogmatic religion following the Greater Will. It’s a true step away from what caused the issues leading up to the events of Elden Ring in the first place, and there’s something to be admired about that.

1 The Lord Of The Frenzied Flame

Next to the Blessing Of Despair ending, this may be the darkest known ending to Elden Ring. It lands at the top of the ranking for its uniqueness, stunning visual closing piece, and because it feels fitting for a FromSoftware game to end in chaos like this. To achieve this ending you have to inherit the Frenzied Flame from a being known as “Three Fingers”.

Once you’ve defeated the Elden Beast, you become the Lord Of The Frenzied Flame and engulf the Erdtree and the Lands Between into fire. This is essentially the “Noah’s flood” ending to the game. Three Fingers sees everything the Greater Will has created as a tainted abomination and seeks to burn it all to the ground.
