Elden Ring Has Enthralled George R. R. Martin: “It Looks Incredible”

In a post on his personal website, novelist George R.R. Martin described Elden Ring as enthralling and incredible. Developer FromSoftware collaborated with Martin to build Elden Ring’s lore, establishing a fantastical world known as The Lands Between. Though fresh details about the open-world setting have begun to surface more frequently, there still exists quite a bit of mystery with regards to what wait awaits players in the vast locale.
FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment announced Elden Ring over two years ago during E3 2019. New information emerged piecemeal for a long while afterward, but, fortunately, the action-RPG entered the spotlight once again this past summer, complete with official gameplay footage in tow. A select number of players were able to go hands-on with the title in a Closed Network Test hosted in November. But the full experience is now only a couple of months out from release. As such, George R.R. Martin has decided to mark the rather imminent occasion with a celebratory ‘Not a Blog’ blog post.
World-renowned novelist George R.R. Martin added a new post to his ‘Not a Blog’ over the weekend, as spotted by VGC. The brief write-up, titled “Long Long Ago…,” provides a brief history of Martin’s work with Hidetake Miyazaki and the crew at FromSoftware. As mentioned above, the team wanted Martin to help flesh out the worldbuilding in Elden Ring, which he did by drafting the backstory for “a deep, dark, resonant world.” The writer admits he hasn’t played video games since the original Railroad Tycoon and Romance of the Three Kingdoms days, yet can’t help but note that Elden Ring “looks incredible.” Notably, the post ends with Martin detailing his “current mood” in one word – “enthralled.”
George R.R. Martin’s fascination with the world he created alongside FromSoftware is bound to excite many a prospective Elden Ring player. He has a point, too, the open-world RPG does indeed look amazing, from the awe-inspiring environments and creatures to the challenging gameplay and everything in between.
Unfortunately, those interested in Elden Ring’s story will need to be careful online over the course of the next couple of months. Dataminers found a way of gaining access to the previously held Closed Network test and were able to uncover files featuring plot and endgame content details. Reportedly, some of this information is already making the rounds online.
