There are several different breeds of Khajiit featured in the Elder Scrolls series, from the cat-like Suthay to the far more humanoid Ohmes. Many Elder Scrolls games only feature one or two of these variations, however. The Elder Scrolls Online, especially the Elsweyr expansion, changed that and could potentially set the stage for The Elder Scrolls 6 moving forward.

Given that the Elder Scrolls 6 is in its design phase as of now, according to Todd Howard, much is unclear about the game’s direction. However, many fans of the Elder Scrolls series have speculated about where it could be set, from little-seen regions like Hammerfell and High Rock to entirely new locations such as Akavir. Nothing has been concretely revealed thus far, though, aside from a teaser trailer featuring a panning shot of the landscape. Another possibility that’s been suggested is the Khajiit homeland of Elsweyr, which has most recently appeared in The Elder Scrolls Online.

The Elsweyr expansion for ESO was released in the spring of 2019 and allowed players to explore the region of Northern Elsweyr, populated almost entirely by different breeds of Khajiit. The amount of variety showcased in Elder Scrolls Online helped make the game feel more in-tune with the Elder Scrolls universe’s complex lore and introduced a wider range of unique NPCs for players to interact with.

How The Khajiit Can Change In Elder Scrolls 6

Various books in the Elder Scrolls series focus on the Khajiit and their physiology, including the Pocket Guide to the Empire. Various NPCs within the games make a note of the different Khajiit breeds, as well. There are four main groups that can be used to distinguish them – Large Quadrupeds, Large Bipeds, Small Quadrupeds, and Small Bipeds – and each is dependent on the cycling of Tamriel’s moons. The result of this is equally-sentient Khajiit with vastly different appearances, such as the Alfiq, who resemble housecats, or the much larger Senche-raht, which are often used as steeds for other Khajiit breeds. Notably, most Elder Scrolls games only feature one variant of Khajiit, for example, the Cathay seen in Skyrim and Oblivion.

Despite all of the NPCs introduced in the Elsweyr expansion, The Elder Scrolls Online likewise only includes one playable breed of Khajiit, which is something that can change moving forward. Allowing players to change their character into different varieties of Khajiit would not only open up more physical customization options but could also allow the developers to add more unique racial traits and abilities. It would be an interesting change of pace for the series to feature more than its typical amount of playable characters, and Elder Scrolls 6 has the opportunity to make the most of the series rich lore.
